Mark Ruffalo Thrilled To Play The Hulk, Could Joss Whedon Oversee ABC's "Hulk"?

In a new interview with the latest actor to play Dr. Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk, he reveals he is thrilled to be playing his favorite comic book hero.

Mark Ruffalo, 42, is the latest actor to be linked to The Incredible Hulk role. He has been confirmed for 2012's "The Avengers", and has been signed on to a multi-picture deal to reprise the role WITH a possibility of him starring in ABC's Hulk series in the works.

Courtesty of Celebrifi.com, “I grew up loving the Hulk. He was by far my favorite comic book character, and I always used to watch the TV show, which was brilliant. You could see him struggling with the human aspect of what was happening,” he said.

“I know some people don’t associate me with these really big productions. I generally prefer the rough and tumble of smaller film-making but this was such an opportunity,” he added.

In a semi related note, could it be possible that Mark Ruffalo will indeed star in ABC's "The Incredible Hulk" series? We know nothing really about the project so far, will it be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (in which case Ruffalo should be there) or its own continuity (Not a big fan of showing yet another take of The Hulk).

So... listen to this, this is a total theory but maybe Ruffalo will in fact play the role in the series and why? At Comic-Con 2010, Joss Whedon was saying how Ruffalo was "his" Banner and he reminded him of Bill Bixby's portrayal of the character, which is why he was cast, and that is assuming what the new show will be paying homage too.

You also cant forget that Ruffalo is getting up in age, and even being in Hollywood movies he seems like he really cant get much work these days as easily as he would like. He is certainly an actor that could make the transition to television, and as The Hulk that could be a smart move.

Joss Whedon has a history with television, practically all of his works were on TV, and arguably his most successful "Alias" was an ABC show.

Joss Whedon's "The Incredible Hulk" starring Mark Ruffalo... sounds plausible to me.

"The Avengers" will be released on May 4, 2012, with Ruffalo debuting as Banner/Hulk alongside actors Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner.

I'm pretty sure Alias was created by J. J. Abrams, not Joss Whedon.
Joss is famous for Buffy.

They're both awesome though.

That's JJ Abrams, and Lost would arguably be his most successful series.

@tazmaniak
Lost is the most successful, but Fringe is his best IMO.
Fringe=AMAZING

How can they make a good Hulk show? The cost of the CGI would be insane

I could easily see him playing the Hulk in tv, just like Hugh Laurie plays Dr. Gregory House in House, Tim Roth plays Dr. Cal Lightman in Lie To Me, James Woods plays Sebastian Shark in Shark, James Gandolfini plays Tony Soprano in The Sopranos and Steve Buscemi plays Mob Boss Enoch "Nucky" Thompson in Boardwalk Empire.

Joss Whedon's "The Incredible Hulk" starring Mark Ruffalo...sounds AWESOME to me! But how often will we actually see The Hulk? With a TV budget, I'm betting once every 3-4 episodes with the cost/time consuming CGI needed to be the standard of the movie(s). If they can pull it off, it'll be a great way to introduce lower tier characters and hopefully not [frick] them up like DC has with Smallville.

Hmmm, mebbe this is another reason Ed Norton didnt get the Hulk gig again! Couldnt see him doing tv work as well as movies! It makes more sense Ruffalo doing it as he is more likely to do the tv series as well....

There are so many better shows they could do... seriously. If they really pick a good character and really pour into the resources to make an amazing live action tv show it'd be so cool.
I doubt it will though.

I think the TV Hulk should be played by someone different then the movie version. Ed Norton is who I would pick infact I would do the show in a way similar to his movie. It flowed like a updated version of the old TV Show.

It makes sence for him to be in the show. I mean why would they just cast him as Banner in The Avengers and have yet another guy as him in the show? That doesn't make much sence.

i still say F Mark Ruffalo F Joss Whedon and F Kevin Feige for making this decision. Edward Norton was the best Bruce Banner. The Incredible Hulk was great. well alot better than Hulk which was god awful. just the fact that Tony Stark (RDJ) did a cameo in THe Incredbile Hulk is what had me so psyched about Edward Norton being part of the cast of The Avengers movie. these idiots don't realize how important consistency is. Don Cheadles in Iron Man 2 now this crap. but whatever.

@superspiderman..... dude i feel ya on the inconsistency of the actors but there are so many different parts that come together to make movies so i would think that some inconsistencies are gonna happen weather we like it or not...i try to think of it as a different comic book artist taking a shot at the character but instead of comic books its a movie ya dig???

i wouldn't mind a hulk tv show,but i'd rather a couple of hulk movies.

you can spend more money on them,they will look 100x better on the big screen.

Mark Ruffalo is my favourite actor, and the Incredible Hulk from the 70s and 80s is one of my favourite series. Edward Norton was underwhelming in the role, to me he's just a fortysomething Michael Cera who plays the same style every time. Mark Ruffalo, on the other hand, is one of the biggest talents out there today.

Whedon producing the series wouldn't surprise me, but I don't think he wants to be tied down to a weekly TV show at this point.
As for Ruffalo, where did you get the idea that it's hard for him to find work in movies? The guy is well respected and seems to work as much as he chooses. Expect an Oscar nod for his work in this year's The Kids Are All Right. He would never sign on for a TV series at this point in his career.

I just hate the fact that they are going with the 3rd banner in such a close time span... i get it, the first hulk was on the weak side, but Norton as banner was better then anyone could have hopped for, and is going to be hard t match, let alone top... ill see the movie nomatter what, but ill be going in a little jaded because of the awesome performance by Norton.
