I thought it would be interesting to get an idea of how
The Avengers trailer went down in some other camps. It was arguably the most anticipated teaser in CBM history after all. Did it disappoint? Well judging from the reactions here seemingly not but the same can't be said for everyone.
Here are some quotes from various other parties around the web..
Katey Rich from
Cinemablend gives one of her 5 reasons why the trailer may have underwhelmed..
The music was awful. Minor quibble, but an important one. When a trailer is set to unlistenable modern rock, it always seems to be straining to appeal to a young male audience while irritating the hell out of everybody else. Don't they know that young men are going to see this movie no matter what anyway, and they can relax a little?
Eric Ditzian from
MTV writes..
"The first full trailer for The Avengers is here, though at first glance, it seemed much more like the work of Michael Bay — a little citizens-ominously-watching-the-skyline Armageddon here, a bit of city-block-destroying Transformers there — than the handiwork of Marvel and writer/director Joss Whedon. While the trailer didn't deliver everything we were hoping for — nor did it have the ineffable coolness we might have expected — it gave us a whole lot of Marvel goodness to unpack,"
THR's Jay Fernandez..
"Awesome. Or it would be if we hadn't seen all of this before and expected every single thing that we saw in the trailer. And this gets at the crux of the Avengers problem: Given the scope and impact of the individual films, how does this one deliver something bigger, better, newer?"
But there are those that loved it too of course..
Den Of Geek's James Hunt..
"Previous Marvel Studios films have been light on iconic locations, preferring a more real-world approach. This one looks like it'll change all that, truly putting the Marvel Universe on the screen for the first time. It's rare that a movie can rival the combination of comic book art and a reader's imagination, but this is very close to doing so. It's impossible to say whether the film is going to be good or bad so far in advance, but a trailer this high-octane has undoubtedly left even the most cautious of expectations raised."
The Stir's Linda Sharps..
"Considering the level of slobbering fan expectation over this movie, it would have been all too easy for the trailer to disappoint. However, I think you'll agree that this sneak peek was custom-designed to both whet our appetites and leave us clamoring for more. I mean, COME ON. That's just pure unadulterated awesomeness right there. Snark from Tony Stark, a smug godlike chuckle from Thor, Hawkeye blowing shit up with his explosive arrows, and a tantalizing glimpse of The Hulk! Patented badassery from Samuel J., Thor villain Loki being all villainous, and even that stick-up-his-butt Agent Coulson! Black Widow ... wearing her little outfit!"
One recurring gripe seems to be that Marvel missed out on a big opportunity to show us even a quick glimpse of the full team assembled. I'm not sure a second of them standing around chatting in a lab really counts. There really should have been one final team shot in costume but instead for whatever reason this particular trailer belonged to Tony Stark. Personally I still really liked it, I was mildly disappointed and agree with some of the criticisms listed above but it was just the first trailer and as a tease it worked fine. It certainly has me chomping at the bit to see more so that must be proof that it worked anyway.
