BATGIRL Set Photo Reveals Lex Luthor's Status In The New DCEU And Teases Return Of Classic Batman Villain

A newly surfaced photo of a prop from the Glasgow set of Batgirl has revealed Lex Luthor's status in the next DC Extended Universe, while we may have an unexpected update on a returning Batman villain.

With The Flash set to reboot the DC Extended Universe, photos from the set of Batgirl have offered our first look at the new world the Scarlet Speedster will create. In this reality, Michael Keaton's Batman is back as the Caped Crusader, and he'll be joining Barbara Gordon when she returns to the screen for an adventure that follows her transformation into a Gotham City vigilante.

Now, a "Gotham Globe" newspaper spotted on the Glasgow, Scotland set of Batgirl has offered an intriguing update on a couple of noteworthy DC Comics villains.

Tim Burton's Batman movies used that publication, of course, and the logo here is the same. The cover story, meanwhile, is "Lex Luther Jailed In Belle Reve Prison" (the content of the story itself is just filler). Upon closer inspection, we see another headline below that reads, "A Comeback For Cobblepot."

In Batman Returns, The Penguin - played by Danny DeVito - died after his battle with the Dark Knight. In this world, though, Oswald Cobblepot is clearly still alive and well. As for Lex, the iconic Superman villain being behind bars echoes what happened to the version of the character played by Jesse Eisenberg in Zack Snyder's DC movies (though Arkham Asylum is switched out for Belle Reve).

We'll see what ramifications these reveals have for the DCEU when Batgirl is released on HBO Max.
