It would appear, based on a new job listing, that developer WB Games Montréal is looking to expand the DC universe in the video game space. The listing, posted on Facebook, calls for a Technical Director "to lead our team of programmers" and "join a passionate team working on expanding the DC universe in the interactive space."
WB Games Montréal previously worked on Batman: Arkham Origins - the prequel to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham games - which received relatively lukewarm reception upon its release in 2013. Other DC projects from the studio include the enhanced Wii U port of Batman: Arkham City as well as Batgirl-themed DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight.
Exactly how the studio plans on expanding the DC universe remains a mystery, though. Given the developer's history, a new installment in the Batman: Arkham series seems like the most obvious candidate; but, it's also possible they are hiring for a game based on a different DC Comics character, like Superman - a game which has been rumored to be in development and has even had assets leak online. Who knows, with the popularity of Wonder Woman on the big screen maybe the developer will take "a chance" on a game based on the Amazonian Princess.
It's important to point out that the DC characters we've played as in video games - and their stories - are completely separate and unrelated to what we've seen unfold on the big screen in Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe. With many DC fans disappointed in the direction of the DCEU, perhaps WB Games can breathe new life into the DC universe and our favorite comic characters through video games. The question now is what exactly the studio is cooking up for its "new IP project for next generation platforms." Is it another Batman: Arkham game or something totally different?
What DC Comics character do you hope to see WB Games Montréal bring to life in the video game space?
