BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS Developer WB Games Aims To Expand The DC Universe In Future Video Games

A job listing by WB Games, developer of Batman: Arkham Origins, calls for "expanding the DC Universe" in future video games. Will it be a new Batman: Arkham or a totally different DC Comics-based game?

It would appear, based on a new job listing, that developer WB Games Montréal is looking to expand the DC universe in the video game space. The listing, posted on Facebook, calls for a Technical Director "to lead our team of programmers" and "join a passionate team working on expanding the DC universe in the interactive space."

WB Games Montréal previously worked on Batman: Arkham Origins - the prequel to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham games - which received relatively lukewarm reception upon its release in 2013. Other DC projects from the studio include the enhanced Wii U port of Batman: Arkham City as well as Batgirl-themed DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight.

Exactly how the studio plans on expanding the DC universe remains a mystery, though. Given the developer's history, a new installment in the Batman: Arkham series seems like the most obvious candidate; but, it's also possible they are hiring for a game based on a different DC Comics character, like Superman - a game which has been rumored to be in development and has even had assets leak online. Who knows, with the popularity of Wonder Woman on the big screen maybe the developer will take "a chance" on a game based on the Amazonian Princess.

It's important to point out that the DC characters we've played as in video games - and their stories - are completely separate and unrelated to what we've seen unfold on the big screen in Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe. With many DC fans disappointed in the direction of the DCEU, perhaps WB Games can breathe new life into the DC universe and our favorite comic characters through video games. The question now is what exactly the studio is cooking up for its "new IP project for next generation platforms." Is it another Batman: Arkham game or something totally different?

What DC Comics character do you hope to see WB Games Montréal bring to life in the video game space?

I'd enjoy seeing a Green Arrow video game and bring back the voice actors from Justice League Unlimited to voice Green Arrow, plus Black Canary.

@BlackIceJoe - I think if a Green Arrow game was made if would be similar to tomb raider and Horizon Zero Dawn.

@BlackIceJoe - With a green arrow rocksteady style.

I want a Superman game, a Flash game and a Red Hood and the Outlaws game. I also want a Wonder Woman game and a Deathstroke game.

@DeadWade213 - It would be great a videogame of The Flash with a huge map of Central City to run, moments of "time slowed down" and additional missions in which you have to visist the future and the Flash museum. In addition to the Rogues giving war throughout the game and Reverse-Flash as final boss.

@DeadWade213 - hell yes to Deathstroke. WB should partner with Platinum Games, their combat would be perfect

@Repian - infamous second son and Quantum Break established concepts for a flash game.

@PicolasCage - working with platinum goes against the concept WB wants to do with their big AAA superhero games, rather than Sticking to A particular genre or style, you build the game/scenarios around the character. Deathstroke game would have mission design akin to Hitman, and weapon combat as brutal and bloody as the Middle Earth games(without the Magic).

This is great news. Origins was the 2nd best Arkham game in my opinion.

@Nightwing1015 - with city being first? I definitely agree. Such an underrated game. Knight was trash

@MyCoolYoung - Actually I'd have Knight first. The story was indeed trash but I loved the combat, open world Gotham and Batmobile. Despite the bad reputation it gets for the tank battles, many people love it. Knight actually won the favorite Arkham Game poll the Arkham wikia with over 1000 votes. City came second with around 750.

@Nightwing1015 - i knew you'd say that once I sent it lol I just thought the tank stuff was over done. I don't think no boss fights were outside of it. They just weren't challenging to me. I thought they focused more so on telling a story than the actual gameplay but that was just me.

@auditore - Best story by a wide margin. It's weird how the better games fell short of delivering that basic Batman feeling story.

Well, Asylum had a good story. City and Knight... ehhh... were okay.

@auditore - origins is underrated in terms of story. It actually pushed the narrative in unique ways.

@Spock0Clock - asylum was Batman Die Hard in the best way possible,City story was...not that good because of the open world(pacing was kinda all over the place but that twist was awesome) Knight was like a snyder movie big bloated so violent that you start to think its some kind of sick fetish
