SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE Confirmed To Address Mystery Surrounding Batman's ARKHAM KNIGHT Fate

It's been confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will take place in the same world as the Arkham franchise, with the plan being to finally reveal what became of Bruce Wayne and Batman...

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the first video game from Rocksteady in 9 years, though early word on the title appears mixed. The project has been mired in controversy lately, with a string of apparent plot leaks leaving DC fans fuming about the fact the Justice League will die at Task Force X's hands.

An argument could be made that the clue is in the title. Either way, with this being the late Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman, fans are eager for his Dark Knight to go out on a positive note.

For those of you unaware, the story does indeed take place in the same timeline as the Batman: Arkham trilogy. Arkham Knight ended with Bruce Wayne's secret identity revealed to the world before he faked his death and took on a nightmarish new persona thanks to Scarecrow's fear gas. Since then, fans have wondered how and whether that will be addressed in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Rocksteady Studios' Production Manager, Jack Hackett, recently spoke with ComicBook.com (via GameFragger.com) and strongly hinted that we'll finally get some answers about Batman's return in this loose follow-up.

"Yes, you will [get answers]. There's a bunch of ways we convey what happened in the five years between Arkham Knight and Kill the Justice League. There's one big set piece quite early on in the story, which, I don't want to give it away, but in a really fun way, kind of takes you through the core beats of what happened, how the Justice League got together, what happened with Bruce, with Batman, and other details there. Particularly for big lore and DC and Arkham-verse fans."

"There's some really fun ways you can find out a lot of the details and get some of the kind of background story. And then, yeah, through the Metropolis, through the Hall of Justice, through lots of different spaces and avenues in the game, there's lots of details on what the characters from all three of the Arkham games have been up to since Arkham Knight."

"And, I think there are probably some characters that are going to pop up that Arkham-verse fans will certainly recognize but probably don't think are going to appear in this game, [such as Aaron Cash]."

It's hard to shake off the feeling that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will tarnish the Arkham trilogy's legacy and Rocksteady's standing as a premium game developer. For a time, it sounded like they were working on a Superman title but this effort - which, troublingly, seems to be in the same vein as Marvel's Avengers - is what we're getting instead.

From Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-defying third-person action shooter where the ultimate band of misfits must do the impossible to save the world: Kill the Justice League.

The game will be released on February 2 on all major platforms.

Just officially announce it as an unrelated spin off, that alone would solve at least half the issue's people have this game.

They gonna reference Deadshots change in appearance from Arkham City to this game.

@LittleSween - They do, several times. Rocksteady actually addressed this a few years ago. They give a stupid reason

Gosh I wish they would make an open-world Superman game. I haven't been a gamer in 12 years but I'd get right back at it if that was made.

@lazlodaytona - and here’s what some fans are doing
?si=9yzPVhcqh-FINCRK So it’s definitely possible for a AAA studio to make a good Superman game if the fans can do it.

@Arthorious - I LOVED the Superman Returns game way back when it came out. It had a lot of issues though, Never felt like I was flying that fast and overall the game was just difficult.

Thanks for sharing dude!

@lazlodaytona - Not a problem! I enjoyed that game too but it could've definitely been improved. I have a feeling that if Superman Legacy is a massive hit then I can see a game coming out soon.

I think, technically speaking, that Multiversus counts as Kevin Conroy's last Batman project since that officially releases later this year. So even if he suffers a punk-ass death (which, it actually sounds like it's more nuanced than that) it won't be the way the GOAT Batman goes out. This is not how he takes his final bow, after all.

Technically.

I Don't care, the game looks like trash.

Body Positive Harley Quinn needs to drop Ivy and hook up with Jenny Craig by the looks of that thumbnail.

You ruined the AK ending with this game

@GhostDog - In what way? I’m not saying I disagree, I’m just curious why you think that specifically

@GhostDog - you had over 10 years to play it lol

@CerealKiller1 - idk I really wanted to give SS the benefit of the doubt, but trotting out Kevin Conroy's Batman one last time for this just feels odd. Undoing AK's powerful ending just to have an extra boss battle but I know I’ve got to play the game to truly judge it
GhostDog

@bobevanz - I think the ending is ruined by putting Bats in this lesser game. But hey maybe I’m wrong

@GhostDog - The game is still there, you’re still able to treat it as an ending. I get what you mean, but honestly, it’s weirder to me that an alive Batman would just hide away or pretend like he’s not around. And the reason given in the game for why he comes out of hiding, while brief, makes sense to me in the context of the character. If you do end up playing it/seeing the story, would love to know whether the feeling stuck for you 😊

@GhostDog - How does this undo Arkham Knights ending where it's established that Bruce still operates as Batman?
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/12/2024, 10:04 AM
@Nightwing1015 - To be fair to GhostDog, it’s never confirmed the ‘Nightmare Batman’ at the end is Bruce and this new game actually kind of implies it wasn’t
GhostDog
GhostDog - 1/12/2024, 10:09 AM
@CerealKiller1 - I’m prone to being irrational lol. And I understand and interpret the ending of AK as "Bruce Wayne" has died, but the Batman will be eternal. Now he's free to JUST be the Bat, and he can reclaim the "urban legend" status that made him so feared in his early years.

I wouldn’t necessarily want him to hide of course and I still wrestle with the reveal of his identity at the end too. Part of me had accepted that his story was done in a way and the Bat was “urban legend”That’s me being selfish and still wanting stories that involve Bruce Wayne and Batman.

@CerealKiller1 - it’s strongly implied thag Nightmare Batman is Bruce, who else would it be?

And how does this new game imply it wasn’t?
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/13/2024, 12:00 PM
@Nightwing1015 - I played the closed beta a couple months ago, there is a lab exhibit in the Hall of Justice curated by Jack Ryder that shows the events of the Arkham games like with minituare sets and narration. It explains that Bruce left Gotham for 5 years and then the Justice League formed and Superman went and found him in hiding and convinced him to join for the greater good

Don't buy this game, it's another one of those worthless live service game Fortnite ripoffs.

Sadly, the video game industry is going to be moving onto live-service releases. Nintendo is most likely going to jump on this train, same as the way Microsoft, Steam, EPIC and PlayStation now focusing its efforts on that type of service.

Making a game without some form of live-service or lack of DLC in this market, is becoming more and more unsustainable. Especially since GTA Online was 10 years worth of content and still growing till GTA 6. So honestly, I get why Rocksteady did this, because they need income instead of dropping one big game and hoping for the best.

Reason why it isn't doing so well is because the way the game is being marketed. It's not up front with consumers, mixed messages on the game, constant delays since announcement, so on and so forth.
