NIGHTWING Director Chris McKay Assures Fans That The Movie Is Still Happening...Eventually

It's been a long time since we've heard anything about Warner Bros.' Nightwing movie but director Chris McKay has promised fans that the DC Comics adaptation isn't dead...yet! Read on for details...

Ever since Justice League underperformed both critically and commercially, Warner Bros. has decided to hold off on announcing any sort of DC Films slate as they go back to the drawing board and take it one movie at a time. Unfortunately, many fans suspect that Nightwing is among the adaptations to be culled but what does director Chris McKay have to say about that?

Well, as you can see below, he responded to a fan on social media to make it clear that the project isn't dead and fans are simply going to have to be patient before seeing Dick Grayson brought to the big screen.

While it certainly appears as if McKay is trying to remain optimistic, it wouldn't be remotely surprising if Nightwing has been put on the backburner, especially as the character (in his Robin persona) is currently taking centre stage in Titans on DC Universe. It's also possible that Warner Bros. is holding off and planning to introduce Dick in The Batman before moving forward with a solo flick.

What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.

@Edministrator - I think they are just trying to gain some positive vibes with some films that can be successful with a lower budget, before going back into the big budget pool. Aquaman & Shazam were already in development and Wonder Woman is a good bet to bring in money. With the Joker, BOP, & SS2 having the most recent life showing that focus. Hopefully they get Batman & Flash in there somewhere and can then get onto Green Lantern and a MOS2.

@imnotadoor - that's why I do it. To show how much of a mess DC/WB is, and continues to be.

@L0RDbuckethead - I believe that point he was trying to make is that Batman and Superman, the two most iconic DC properties are nowhere to be seen. Had those properties not been ransacked we would be seeing a movie for each of those characters every 3 years forever.

@Goldboink - Yep. You're exactly right. But unfortunately for us as fans, we will never know... until DC recovers from their missteps (if they do, which I fully believe they will).

@L0RDbuckethead - Aquaman is the key for me. If they manage to turn the dippiest of DC characters into a badass and we wind up caring about the characters then I am down. I like to judge these movies on re-watchability. I can watch WW again and again. Not so much any of the Snyder movies or even Suicide Squad. Here's hoping that Mamoa's Aquaman is re-watchable. I also really like Ezra Miller's Flash, who was a bright spot for me in JL and I hope they can pull that one off.

By nature I am a Marvel guy but I don't wish DC any ill will and I just want to be entertained. ONe of the most depressing things I ever saw was the look on Afleck's face when he had to do press for another CBM that sucked and he got turned into a meme. That was going to be his RJD moment to play an iconic hero for years and years and he knew it was shite. I think that may have led him down the booze road once again.

Poor guy.

Honestly i dont see an issue with the movie version and the one on titans both existing. Especially since one has the nightwing persona and the other robin.

@Origame - They said the Titans Robin would eventually adapt the Nightwing persona down the line.

@Origame - Just give Brenton Thwaites a couple seasons on Titans then make a Nightwing movie with him based in the near future. Then in a few more seasons(or right before the show is cancelled) make him Nightwing on Titans and make Damian Wayne the Robin on Titans.

@minato808 - that seems incredibly limiting to the director of the movie. Remember, with that he has to use everything about the character based off the show and a similar tone. Itd be far more interesting for this to be an entirely new take on the character.

I get that the guy is excited, it can be something to cherish. But in this situation... I wish he simmered down and wasn't hyping the movie up as he was. It was too much this early and far away. He should be helping keeping our expectations in check.

It’s on the backburner because Dick is being introduced in Reeves’ Batman.

Boom.
GwenLantern
GwenLantern - 10/25/2018, 11:11 AM
@Philip - I hope not. How many damn times are we having to see the Dick Grayson-becomes-Robin-and-guess-what-he'll-never-really-be-Nightwing-ever movie?

I'm more sick of that than Uncle Ben and the Waynes getting shot.

We've had 6 live action movies 2 animated movies with Dick being Robin.

Dick Grayson as Robin was when the Batman comiocs were at their worst.

But it's all the media knows.

When they do Robin he's always Dicka nd when they do Dick he's always Robin.

I'm sick of it. Sorry, but I really am.

Dick's been Robin on the silver screen since 1943, but he hasn't been Robinin the comics since the very early 1980s and he's not been Batman's sidekick since the very early '70s.

Come on, Hollywood. Jason Todd, Carrie Kelly, Tim Drake (the fan-favorite, btw), Stephanie Brown, Damian Wayne (would be a great sell to the GA), Duke Thomas even Harper Row was almost a Robin. So many sidekicks.

Only Chris McKay can save us from this by doing a solo Nightwing movie and preventing the same old story from being played out again and again.

Hollywood needs to break out of this OCD cycle. It's retarding the progress of Batman on film.

I hope this movie does eventually happen. Nightwing/Dick Grayson is my favorite comicbook character of all time. He deserves a movie. Watching him go go up against a Will Smith Deadshot would be pretty fun to watch.
