Many fans expected The Batman to boast an R-Rating, but when toys and merchandise started doing the rounds, it quickly became clear that the movie is being aimed at as wide an audience as possible. That's not a surprise given the Caped Crusader's popularity, and with Spider-Man: No Way Home pulling in pre-pandemic numbers at the box office, Warner Bros. is likely hoping for similar results.
Recently, The Batman was rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for "strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material." Now, we may have a better idea of what that "strong suggestive material" actually is.
The Irish Film Classification Office has hit the Dark Knight's next solo outing with a 15A rating, meaning only children aged 15 and above will be able to watch the movie unless accompanied by an adult.
Why? Well, their classification reveals that The Batman contains "strong violence and language, moderate drugs and mild sex/nudity." We're obviously not expecting anything too raunchy, though many fans are already speculating online that The Bat and The Cat could get intimate on a Gotham City rooftop.
The Batman finds the Caped Crusader in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.
The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.
