Harvey Dent Schlepping for the Dark Knight

Since the untimely death of Heath Ledger we’ve been waiting to see just how Warner Bros. went ahead with promoting Batman The Dark Knight. But having moved the focus from the Joker to Aaron Eckhart’s character Harvey Dent has seemed to do the job.

It has all been about the “viral marketing” for the Batman genre of late. And now the website I Believe in Harvey Dent (all one word with a .doc at the end) is sending out the Dentmobiles.

Oh yes, that’s right: Dentmobiles.

Their goal is to raise support for Harvey Dent’s campaign to become District Attorney of Gotham City. In an email to those of us who had signed up a few weeks ago: "Dent's challenge to Gotham to show their desire for change has been met with a citywide explosion of activism, with thousands of supporters organizing rallies, meetups, petition drives and posting signs and placards in every neighborhood."

The email links to places where users can submit videos and photos of them supporting Harvey Dent. Printouts have been made available on the website for placards and the like.

If nothing else, you have to give WB an A for creativity. Opening in cinemas worldwide in July, The Dark Knight is going to be a movie unlike any other, if for no other reason than for Heath Ledger’s final and possibly greatest performance.
