Batman's voice on screen has always been a major point of contention for fans; some actors sound exactly the same, while others sound like totally different people (Christian Bale, for example). Based on what we've seen from The Batman, Robert Pattinson has found a perfect balance, but that wasn't always the case.
Talking to Jimmy Kimmel, Pattinson explained that he initially crashed and burned by deciding to adopt a "whispery" voice as the World's Greatest Detective.
"I wanted to do a radically different thing to all the other Batman [actors] and I started in a kind of, I just thought that because everyone has this kind of gruff, gravelly thing, I'm like, 'I'm going to do the opposite and going to go really whispery,'" the actor explained. "And I tried to do it for the first two weeks and it just looked absolutely atrocious. And they told me to stop doing it."
"I found out from Nick, who was putting me in the suit everyday, that's what Christian Bale did on Batman Begins as well," Pattinson continued. "And if you listen to the first Batman Begins teaser trailer, you can hear the original voice, and I only found this out a couple of weeks ago. So, [it's] kind of interesting." As for when he found the right voice, he added: "You can feel when it feels right. You put the suit on and you have to speak in a certain way."
There's a lot of positive buzz surrounding Pattinson's Batman, and it feels like the actor could prove to be the best Dark Knight to date. Reviews and social media reactions will land on February 28, so there's not too much longer to go before we find out whether the movie is as incredible as it looks.
