THE BATMAN: Take A Closer Look At The New Batsuit With These Hi-Res, Black & White Screenshots

The costume test video for The Batman didn't exactly offer our clearest look at Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight, but these hi-res screenshots reveal some interesting details you may have missed...

Following that intriguing reveal of the Batsuit Robert Pattinson will don in The Batman, fans endlessly debating what it might tell us about Matt Reeves' highly anticipated DC Comics movie.

The video - which was clearly a costume test of some sort - was bathed in red lighting, meaning it wasn't exactly easy to see all the minute details on the suit (it's also resulted in "Daredevil" trending on Twitter due to the mask looking not all that different to the Man Without Fear's).

Now, though, we've rounded up some hi-res, black and white screenshots to bring you an even better look at the Batsuit we will see in what is believed to be the first instalment in a trilogy.

Yes, that does appear to be stitching on Batman's mask and it's oddly reminiscent of what Adam West wore in the classic TV series.

With no ears on display, it's fair to say this doesn't look very Batman-esque. If you imagine them, though, then it's easy enough to see what Reeves is going for with this take on the hero.

Unfortunately, unfavourable comparisons to a gimp mask could also be made...

The nose on the mask isn't overly pronounced, and that's probably why there have been so many comparisons to Daredevil.

However, what we're really interested in looking at in this shot is that collar (which appears to be connected to the hero's cape). It's something completely different to what we've seen in the past and easy to see why those rumours claimed that Lee Bermejo's work was an influence here.

Something everyone seems to love about this costume is that it appears to be heavily armoured. It's an awesome look for the Caped Crusader, and one that worked wonderfully in the Arkham series of video games.

It looks like a heavy suit, and one which will definitely protect Batman while he fights criminals in Gotham City.

There's also a "homemade" feel of sorts to the suit which definitely makes it feel like Bruce Wayne has made this suit alongside Alfred Pennyworth rather than with Wayne Industries' tech.

Now, a lot of fans have theorised that the Bat-symbol on the World's Greatest Detective's suit is possibly a Batarang that he's able to remove and throw at his enemies.

It's a fun and undeniably plausible theory, but we have another idea about what significance it has to the hero in this particular take on the iconic DC Comics character.

Look closely at that "logo" and it actually looks like it's been made from parts of a gun.

Comic book fans will be all too aware that the Dark Knight hates those (Ben Affleck's version of the hero using them was a real issue for fans), and it would make sense for that symbol on his chest to have been made from the gun Joe Chill used to kill his parents.

It's also pretty twisted and dark, but Bruce Wayne isn't the most stable of people...

Robert Pattinson isn't a huge guy, but this armoured Batsuit appears to have given the impression that he is, and there's no denying that he appears to be a physically imposing version of the hero.

It's a shame we don't get a better look at the cape but it seems to be comic accurate.

Huge fan, and great suprise after a 6 hour plane ride!

Buddy of mine isnt a huge fan of the stitched mask, but I like it. Reminds me of Earth 1, and its different, which is what's needed.

Just imagine what catwoman is gonna look like tho

@DannRamm113 - It's made out of bat skin or what used to be his leather sofa.

@Matador - Speaking of Catwoman, I think we might get her costume aswell soon, because Zoe has said that she already tried it. My bet is that they start filming on outdoors so they just released this because of that.

@DannRamm113 - If this is a "camera test" isn't safe to assume that this "IS NOT HIS ACTUAL COSTUME"?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/14/2020, 7:56 AM
@mastakilla39 - Probably not. Camera tests are generally done to see what costumes look like on camera, as well as testing the actual camera.

If they were testing the camera only then they wouldn't go through the trouble of dressing him up in a fake batsuit and releasing it to the public.

@mastakilla39 - thats a huge leap in logic to assume. Jokers design for 2019 was shown in a camera test. It was real. Now they do make tests for suits they end up not using, but the fact this is what they're showing tells me its a bit more likely to be authentic.

@knocturnalzen10 - I actually really like this theory that the symbol is made from the gun that killed his parents. It actually does look like pieces of a gun.

About 10 years back I was at Megacon in Orlando and one of the writers from the Death Dealer comics told me and my buddy about a pitch he made to DC for a Batman story they turned.

He said it would have followed the gun that killed Bruce's parents. From the time Joe Chill killed Thomas and Martha, it would follow it switching owners through the years until it came all the way back around to someone trying to use it against Batman.

No one in the story would know the significance of that gun, not even Batman when he runs into it again. Only the reader would know.

I thought that would have been an awesome story. This symbol on his costume theory made me think of that.

@CorndogBurglar - i love that symbolism but it's what drives him , whether it's good or bad ....

@CorndogBurglar - He must have told one of the writers in Hawaii Five-0, cos they used that same idea not too long ago.

@Tasmaniac - Really? That's pretty cool. That guy told me that story at least 10 years ago.

Not loving the grounded look since WB had seemed to finally be embracing the more fantastic aspects of the comics, but I will reserve judgment.

Wasn't in love with Nolan's take initially, and that went on to become one of my favorite comic book films.

@DAGuess - I think they are confusing "grounded" with chunky fantasy tactical armor. I was hoping for some thick cloth or some kind of woven looking material.

Love the suit/logo. The cowl however looks a bit off to me. Not a big fan of the stitching and how thin it looks. If Batman is gonna get punched in the face, he's gotta have something to protect it.

And maybe they'll do the white eyes in post, but would've preferred something like this...

@KWilly - cosplayers sometimes doing better than the movies. Cowl is great.

@BlackBeltJones - Right? Even the attention to detail for the scuff marks are amazing. Looks battle tested and rugged. Pattinson's looks like it was made by his grandma. Nice, but not for fighting crime lol.

@KWilly - That's point. Batman doesn't get hit in the face...until he does. You have to learn somehow.

i really just want this suit to show reasonable mobility ...
Origame
Origame - 2/14/2020, 6:47 AM
@knocturnalzen10 - well we've only seen the shoulders and chest. Its possible the rest is more reasonable with the armor coverage so he can move (not tdk or arkham territory)

I saw an edit where the cowl and cape had a blue tinge to it, I don’t think it will be but I’d love the blue and grey contrast for a change
FleischerSupes
FleischerSupes - 2/14/2020, 6:23 AM
I'll reserve judgment until I see the full costume. But so far it looks just like a variant of the Nolan films design. More industrial chunky armor.

FleischerSupes - 2/14/2020, 6:48 AM
@GhostofCipher - he's got spaulders, his chest has angular lines like a stealth plane or boat.
