Two years after the film's debut, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder continues to clarify and explain details about the narrative that fans continue to ponder.

On the social media service Vero, the director recently explained why Wayne Manor was in a state of disrepair when Bruce Wayne paid the homestead a visit. Snyder's explanation for the building's decrepit state reads:

I think his father commissioned the lake house as a gift to his mother, a place built by her favorite architect, and she loved it. When Bruce turned 18, he moved in. He ordered Wayne Manor to be left to decompose.

Batman v Superman features a variety of different elements which hint at Batman turning his back on the identity of Bruce Wayne and leaning far more heavily into the ideals of the Dark Knight, creating a variety of reasons why Wayne Manor had fallen into the state of disrepair. This vague abiguity evidently wasn't good enough for some viewers, as they wanted the director to personally clarify the detail.

This reveal comes after a string of details revealed by the director about the film and his intentions behind it. Another case of this would be, Snyder calrifying a heavily speculated and debated moment which features Ezra Miller's The Flash.

Mid-way through the film, Bruce Wayne was greeted by a vision of The Flash who seemed to be attempting to warn the Dark Knight about an impending threat. Some of the confusion surrounding the moment stems from it happening immediately after the "Knightmare" dream sequence, leading many to believe that it was also a dream. Snyder recent clarification confirmed that it was in-fact real.

This dream sequence didn’t come up directly in any conversations between Batman and The Flash in Justice League, but it was the reason why Bruce wanted to form the League with Diana and "the others" in the first place.

Perhaps the moment may come up in future DC Extended Universe endeavours such as the upcoming Flashpoint, The Batman or maybe even a follow-up to Justice League.

What do you think about the director's comments and the heavily debated moments?

@Saga -

What's strange is that he made all these arbitrary changes to Bruce Waynes life that do nothing for the character but help alienate him from the audience. An exhausted psychopathic Batman branding and killing people and trying to brutally spear Superman in the heart (because...Jesus) just isn't interesting or relatable.

Now his fans may say it's amazing that they're still talking about the film but if the director has to continue to explain the bizarre, confusing and nonsensical elements of his "masterpiece" then its more of an inaccessible failure.

Bruce letting Wayne Manor "decompose" because he liked the lake house.
It really seems more like he wanted to shoot something cool and just try to make it work after-the fact with an explanation of something the movie doesn't even tell you.

Time to just stop filling the movies holes with silly putty.

@Humperdink - Out of all the changes made to Bruce Wayne, this one annoys me the most. He wouldn't let his childhood home and one of the last ties to his parents go to ruin like that. That would be incredibly disrespectful on his part and make him seem like a total prick.

"He ordered Wayne Manor to be left to decompose."

Maybe its just me, but its hard for me to buy Bruce just letting his family's ancestral home rot.

I feel like he has too much love and respect for them and his family to do that.

I mean even in Begins when he said he would bring the house down brick by brick if he had his way [just when he returned home for the Joe Chill trial, angry and kicked out of college] Alfred set him straight and let him know what the manor represented.

Maybe Bruce is like that idk.

@BlackBeltJones - Actually I can see Bruce letting go of his past, I mean him dressing up as a Bat is constant reminder of his past.

And I do see your point as well.

@BlackBeltJones - Your little mind doesn't get it. It's all a reference to the Bible, when Jesuchrist ordered that the Judas Mansion was left to decompose, after Judas tried to kill Jesus with a Kryptonite Spear.

You see, it's all conected. All this site itself it's a reference to the Bible alone.

@JoeMomma29 - I think Bruce's whole life is him reconciling with his past and whether to ever let go.

Dressing up as a Bat and beating the shit out of criminals is the ultimate indicator that he can't. But, I think there's a reverence he has for his parents and what they built. The manor being one of many beacons of the Wayne Family is important and even his battle with the past wouldn't hinder that.

But I do realize that a guy as damaged as he is, as controlled by the past as he is, could definitely struggle with what to let go of and what not to.

I do not personally see what is wrong with Zack commenting or even defending what he created.

I understand a lot of folks on this this site who are DC and Marvel fans are unhappy with the end product, but good lord let the man have his thoughts.
