Zack Snyder Addresses MAN OF STEEL Complaints And Teases BATMAN v SUPERMAN

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder has once again address the criticism levelled at the movie's destructive final act and how it all links up to Watchmen. The filmmaker also weighs in on pitting Batman against Superman in Dawn of Justice later this year. Check it out!

Talking in the latest issue of Famous Monsters Of Filmland (via Henry Cavill News), Zack Snyder has talked more about what's to come in the DC Films Universe, but first touched on the criticism aimed at Man of Steel for that explosive final act which led to the destruction of a big chunk of Metropolis (yes, people still whine about that). "I stand by it, because for me, I’ve always said when I was working on Watchmen — and maybe it’s sort of left over from a Watchmen philosophical sort of thing — that there should be consequences to superheroes’ interaction with the earth," the filmmaker explains. "And that was kind of the way that we approached Man of Steel. I wanted a big consequence to Superman’s arrival on earth. Certainly, Batman v Superman sort of cashes in all its chips on the ‘why’ of that destruction." Can those complaints finally be put to rest now?

Regardless, Snyder then went on to discuss Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the challenges which came with finding a believable way to have these heroes go toe to toe on the big screen. "The discovery of the story is that Batman fights Superman. Now move your superhero chess pieces so that can happen. And it can happen in a credible and interesting way. … It’s just incredibly satisfying and fun to dig into these two mythological characters and find a through line that allows them to come into conflict in a way that not only is philosophically satisfying, but also physically real." The magazine also has a single quote about Ben Affleck's Batman, with Snyder teasing: "He’s not yet tired of his place in the world. He’s definitely still tooth-and-nailing it." That actually sounds a lot different to reports that he's ready to hang up the cape and cowl, and good news for those of you hoping to see a motivated Dark Knight kicking the crap out of the boy scout!

All I really care about is how boring that destruction was to watch. Hopefully BVS will be a return to form for Snyder in the fight choreography department.

@chimuchone love superman. The pics get me a little misty. ;p

Anyway, I had issue with the writing. But that's been addressed by bringing Chris Terrio on board.

Sounds good to me. Liking the amount of consequences in the DCFCU. Everything I'm hearing is fantastic!

The problem wasn't the destruction, Snyder, it was the lack of proper payoff on what happened. Its like, all that happened, then everything is a ok, that's amateurish directing. Plus the fighting was too long. Shorten that shit.

There are a lot of problems with Man of Steel that stretch beyond just the lack of consequences. Even if this was true. The film never truly gives any sense that this was intentional. It seems like they're just trying to say that the plot holes are really just intentional and that anyone who doesn't get it is just dumb.

Ya...ok.

That's right, it's all about consequences, that's why you had a complete tone-deaf ending that shoved EVERYTHING aside, and a Superman that went through no growth nor dealt with the consequence of his actions such as what happened at Smallville beyond a shrug. I'm glad to see BvS being written as much to address this at least but it was the same thing with AOU and Civil War.

I initially did think there was something wrong with Superman killing ANYONE ever, but after looking into it, in the comic books he HAS killed someone before. It's a last resort and something he would do anything and everything to avoid.

I don't really get on Zack Snyder for that. I'm still pissed at the ending of the Watchmen. I'll never forgive him for that. lol

But I think he's done a pretty good job so far. It's an interpretation of Superman folks. It is the way it is. At least he has been loyal to the costumes and is actually a part of something special
