I actually like some of these inclusions. We forget in retrospect to how unpopular these movies ended up that going into these movies a lot of them had a lot of hype behind them. Fant4stic was seen as the redemption of the franchise before it released and bvs was seen as the big movie to let dc compete with marvel. They didn't end up that way, but that's how they were perceived.

Am I genuinely being positive to a Josh article? Must be in bizarro world.

@Origame - if this is a Bizarro world, should I call you crumbled piece of paper instead?

But yeah, how they were perceived definitely played a part in their reception. Same with Suicide Squad (the trailer certainly did it no favors).

I mever had high hopes for Black Adam and Dark Phoenix though. They were exactly as I expected them to be.

@bkmeijer1 - dark Phoenix is the only one I'd say there was just no hope for. And that's due to the franchise having run its course after apocalypse, the disney merger, and this going to a first time director.

As for black Adam, that was clearly viewed as a superhero movie with dwayne Johnson, so it kinda depends on if that interests you.

As for my bizarro identity, it's clearly stationary 🤣

@Origame - and don't forget the first time director was also the guy who failed at the Dark Phoenix saga before already.

And I always expected Black Adam to be a vanity project for Johnson. And although it wasn't a complete ego-stroker, the did end up feeling bland and predictable.

@bkmeijer1 - oh yeah obviously.

And with black adam I'd say with it being a rock project. He's got his fanbase so the hype was dependent on the camp you were from.

@Origame - from 2013 onward, I didn't expect anything from Johnson's movies besides Johnson being himself and mindless fun. That's my camp

Fant4stic came out in 2015 not 2014.

Math isn't Josh's strong suit, is it? There are 7 movies on this list, not 8.

I enjoyed ETERNALS, but perhaps only because I had read the comics. I suppose there needed to be an easier “in” for general audiences to get on board with its less Avengers-y take on a superhero team.

C’mon Josh, if you’re able to look up the score of a movie, you can easily look up it’s release date too. Fantastic Four, with Michael B Jordan and crew, came out in 2015.

Didn't Eternals get the green splat and Thor:Love And Thunder should have.

“The dreaded green splat”… is there anyone, anywhere that actually cares WTF Rotten Tomatoes says anymore? 🤨

Suicide Squad is one of the greatest "false advertisements" of movie history lol. Those trailers were incredible. So much so, that they should be studied in editing classes and whatnot.

But the movie was some of the worst crap you'll ever see. Say what you will about DC, but they know how to market a movie for the most part.

@KWilly - agreed. But with the movies I actually liked, the trailers were fairly basic. Guess there is something to like about every DCEU movie after all.

Josh says: “As for what went wrong, your guess is as good as ours” - regarding the Josstice League fiasco; while stating that he had made 2 of the best superhero movies with Avengers - I would argue that the first Avengers is ugly to look at/has the aesthetic of a pilot episode to a tv series (didn’t age well); while Age of Ultron everyone complained about after it’s release.

No, we know exactly what happened. Producers and executives overstepped their bounds, and while Snyder was away they THOUGHT they could make a better movie. They hired Joss who is a hack, to rewrite, reshoot, reconceptualize, repurpose, and completely change the film. The guy was an a$$hat to everyone on set, and his actions made their lives horrible while refilling a movie with horrible CGI and green screen. He threw in horrible lines, badly written conversations, and garbage jokes for them all.

Snyder’s movie is the far superior version, and there’s no one I’ve ever heard say otherwise
