Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will finally introduce the MCU's version of Namor the Submariner, and it's fair to say this is something we've been waiting a very long time for.
In the comic books, the character has a storied history with many heroes, including Captain America and The Defenders. None of that has been explored on screen yet, with Namor emerging from Talocan (Atlantis) for the first time in the upcoming Black Panther sequel.
The hope is that Namor is here to stay and, if so, it sounds like Shuri won't be the only hero pushed to her limits by the anti-hero.
Talking to Marvel.com, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler explained, "[There's] no equal in terms of his capabilities, being able to breathe underwater and breathe at high altitudes and walk around on land. He's incredibly strong, he's as strong as Thor, and if he's around enough water he can be as strong as the Hulk."
That's quite a comparison, though Namor has indeed gone toe-to-toe with both heroes on the page. This is a character who has often toyed with the idea of being a villain, and we know he won't exactly be portrayed in the best of lights when he takes aim at Wakanda!
While he does look set to be an antagonist in this movie, producer Nate Moore told the site that, "Here is a man who believes 100% that he is the hero in his own story. He doesn't see himself as a villain because in Namor's eyes what he is doing he's doing to protect a people who have already made it through a tragic history."
The actor who brings the Submariner to life in the MCU, Tenoch Huerta, added to that point by saying, "For me, he's just a hero. It's not my job to think about how the world or the other characters look at him. How they perceive to him it's not my job. My job is he has a strong motivation. He has a clear path, and he knows why it's important."
"He's trying to protect himself and protect all his culture and his people from the exterior world, from the colonialism who is tempt him against their values and the whole culture."
With these comments come two new TV spots for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that show us more of Namor's battle with the new Black Panther. You can check those out below, while the movie itself arrives in theaters this Friday, November 11.
