A couple of days ago, a rumour started circulating that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will premiere on Disney+ on January 20. We're still not sure what the source of that was as the streaming service has yet to share any sort of announcement, though The Hollywood Handle claimed to have "confirmed" the news.
Now, it's looking like it was little more than a lucky guess as ComicBook.com has shared a screenshot from the U.S. version of Disney+ that promises a February 1 debut.
This makes sense as it will be Black History Month, and we're sure that will factor into promoting the emotional Black Panther sequel. Some users are seeing this date on the streamer, while others are not, so it may be best to wait before booking a day off work to watch the movie (with all this online chatter, official news is surely imminent).
We'd hazard a guess that news of a DVD and Blu-ray release is also on the way, so we should soon learn more about special features, deleted scenes and, hopefully, a Director's Commentary.
Over the weekend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever passed $820 million at the worldwide box office. With it now unlikely to hit $1 billion, the sequel can't be considered a disappointment, but it clearly won't reach the same heights as its 2018 predecessor (which grossed over $1.3 billion). You can blame the fallout from the pandemic and Avatar: The Way of Water, among other factors, for that.
"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ranks among Marvel Studios' best movies, and is an emotional, uplifting, tour de force of a blockbuster," we said in our review last year. "Letitia Wright delivers a powerhouse performance, while Angela Bassett’s majestic work will leave you reeling."
