Brian J. White Open To Playing BLACK PANTHER

Responding to a fan's suggestion, actor Brian J. White has further expressed his desire to work with Marvel Studios, now in regards to their Black Panther adaptation rather than Luke Cage.

As more actors express interest in the titular role of Marvel's forthcoming Black Panther big screen adaptation, fans are now modestly reaching out to their preferred candidates via social networking. The latest is actor Brian J. White, 37, who is best known for his roles in Fighting, Stomp the Yard and recently The Cabin in the Woods.

Brian J. White has been keen on working with Marvel for quite some time, expressing his interest in 'Luke Cage' back in 2009, following the success of Iron Man. And although speaking of his eligibility for the 'Cage' role, White told Movieline in August of 2009: "I think I have the skill-set. Like Iron Man, you have to be able to handle drama and comedy; you have to have the physique to be able to take off your shirt; you have to have a certain statue – if you're 5'8 it doesn't really work so well, unless it's a small superhero – and you have to have a certain athletic ability. That's what I'm angling towards. These are $150 million movies, so I'm trying to pay my dues, and do the work, so that I might get a look-in."

Created by writer-editor Stan Lee & penciller-co-plotter Jack Kirby, “The Black Panther” (T'Challa) first appeared in “Fantastic Four #52,” and is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics. Back in January of 2011, Hollywood trades revealed that documentary writer Mark Bailey (“Ghosts of Abu Ghraib”) was hired to pen a live-action screenplay focused on the Wakandan king, for Marvel Studios. And recent claims indicate that “The Black Panther” adaptation could officiate Walt Disney Pictures' currently-untitled June 27, 2014 release date.

Pretty much every black actor in Hollywood wants to play Black Panther. Before you know it Billy Dee Williams is going to peek his head in for the role.

Not tough enough. Brian White's Black Panther can be taken down by an iron to the head.......

(wonders how many people would actually get that reference).

No give it to Chietel Ejuafor. The guy has the look, the accent, the fighting skills and has worked with Joss Whedon.

I want either Aldis Hodge or Anthony Mackie, preferably Hodge as he's a better actor and into martial arts and parkour.

The next person that's going to show interest is 50 Cent or Terrance J from 106 & Park.lol

Michael Jai White is and will always be my choice for Black Panther. I knew the moment anything was said about a Black Panther movie every black man in Hollywood would throw out their interest. More than half of them don't even care about the source material they just want to be apart of marvels money making train. Jamie Foxx should seriously play Falcon in a Captain America movie.

Since every black man is trying to get this role, can I express my interest in it?

It should be Jaleel White. He has the build, the talent, the pure ferocity to play the Panther. Google him if you haven't heard of him before.

The actor that lands the tole as T'challa needs to be BLACK! Not carmel or milk chocolate like... charcoal.

Michael Jai White is too old for the role. That ship has sailed time to move on fellas.

@ AmbientCreativiT Charcoal black or you look so black you look purple black?
TheTaskmaster
TheTaskmaster - 6/26/2012, 7:30 PM
The guy from Blood Diamond (who's name escapes me at the moment) is also too old. Having said that he is my favorite to play T'Challa's father T'Chaka
GeekyCheekyChic
GeekyCheekyChic - 6/26/2012, 7:33 PM
the closest to T'Challa for me is Idris Elba and he is already locked in the Thor series. Beyond that M Jai White is Luke Cage for me and Shemar Moore(Criminal Minds,Birds of Prey) maybe as T'Challa
GeekyCheekyChic
GeekyCheekyChic - 6/26/2012, 7:35 PM
Lenny Kravitz is also polishing up his acting chops so he is a good possibility at T'Challa. He was decent in the Hunger Games.
dahamma
dahamma - 6/26/2012, 7:37 PM
Yeah I say Micheal Jai White for this role. He could do it.

This guy is way to light skinned. And T'Challa needs to looks strong and stern. Not a wimp!
IronManny819
IronManny819 - 6/26/2012, 7:38 PM
@ TheTaskmaster. You'e thinking of Djimon Hounsou. But yeah, he should totally be T'Chaka. Mackie or Ejiofor for T'Challa.

Another hour, another "My Agent said Marvel wants me to play Black Panther" BS story.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 6/26/2012, 7:43 PM
Micheal Jai White CAN NOT ACT! Stop it with him already!

Also.....this just in......Eddie Murphy and Denzel Washington have both expressed interest in portraying T'Challa on screen. Morgan Freeman has refused to comment on the subject but his agent reveals that he has been going over the script given to him by Marvel.;P
TheTaskmaster
TheTaskmaster - 6/26/2012, 7:49 PM
Why is everyone saying they have to hire a super dark African actor? T'Challa isn't THAT dark, in fact he is somewhat light skinned.
santoanderson
santoanderson - 6/26/2012, 7:51 PM
Assuming Black Panther is released in 2014, here are the ages of the popular candidates at the time of release:

Djimon Hounsou - 50
Michael Jai White - 46
TheTaskmaster
TheTaskmaster - 6/26/2012, 7:54 PM
@santo Exactly, people need to get over those 2 because they will not get the role. Marvel plans on making a franchise out of this and not only does the actor need to be younger, T'Challa will be young, and the first movie will involve the death of his father T'Chaka.
TheTaskmaster
TheTaskmaster - 6/26/2012, 7:57 PM
@Intruder You think so? I'll admit in one of the promo pics he looks like a Jersey Shore cast member but other than that I thought he looked plenty white haha
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 6/26/2012, 7:57 PM
To expand on what Taskmaster just said, I've also noticed many people complaining that they need to hire an actual African for the part fora couple of different reasons, one of which being that an American or English actor can't get the accent right.

There are many different African dialects and accents. Last time I checked, Wakanda is a fictional nation. It happens to be an "ISOLATED" fictional nation that frowns upon contact with the outside world. Acknowledging that would mean you should also understand that their "fictional" dialect would be completely different from any other African nation. Therefore, almost any attempt at an African accent (if matched by all the Wakandans) would suffice more than adequetly.
