There has been a lot of talk lately about why Marvel Studios isn't making a Black Widow film. While many people are in favor of seeing this film get green-lit, Marvel execs say otherwise. With over 30,000 searchable files leaked from Sony-Marvel emails, one surfaced that revealed Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and Sony CEO Michael Lynton exchanging a message that seemingly reveals why Marvel doesn't want to move forward with a Black Widow film, and many female-superhero films in general. Michael,

As we discussed on the phone, below are just a few examples. There are more.

Thanks,

Ike

1. Electra (Marvel) – Very bad idea and the end result was very, very bad.http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=elektra.htm

2. Catwoman (WB/DC) - Catwoman was one of the most important female character within the Batmanfranchise. This film was a disaster. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=catwoman.htm

3. Supergirl – (DC) Supergirl was one of the most important female super hero in Superman franchise. This Movie came out in 1984 and did $14 million total domestic with opening weekend of $5.5 million. Again, another disaster.

Best,
Ike

Even though this leaked email shows that Marvel isn't quite confident with female-led superhero films, we are getting a Captain Marvel film set to hit theaters November 2, 2018. Will we ever see a Black Widow movie get put on the big screen? It's not likely, but I'm sure if it were to happen, everyone would be in favor of it! What do you think about Ike Perlmutter and Michael Lynton's thoughts? Also, what other female heroes would you like to see get their own film? Sound off below with your thoughts!

Man, [frick] Ike Perlmutter. I'd go see a Black Widow film, as long as it was done well.

Besides, Catwoman shouldn't be on the list, because that movie sure as shit wasn't Catwoman.

Elektra...I'm not sure what happened, but it was awful. Garner looked pretty sexy in that outfit, though.

And, Supergirl? Shit character, and it was the 80s.

That being said hopefully this will change with WW!

Maybe you shouldn't make movies that shouldn't be made (Elektra and Supergirl).

Or don't completely [frick] the source material of the character whose name is in the [frick]ing title or your piece of shit movie (Catwoman).

Wow, three examples of movies that were extremely poorly written.

Write a good movie and people will watch it. It doesn't matter if it's male or female lead. Just make a good movie.

I've changed my mind on wanting a Black Widow film, kinda bored with the whole espionage/spy genre films. Now an A-Force movie would be dope.

Has Ike ever heard of Salt? Or Long Kiss Goodnight? Or La Femme Nikita? Or Kill Bill?

Worry about making a good female-driven movie that isn't burdened by cliches first. Then after that, market the hell out of it with the Disney machine.

Listen to racist, sexist Perlmutter's bias. By that logic since the first Hulk movie was shot, they never shoulda made the second one. Or, they shouldn't have done anything with DD.

Or, remember that shitty Cap movie from decades ago? So it's okay to remake shifty male movies, but not shifty female ones?

Stay classy, Ike. There's another "Ike" that comes to mind, with this same attitude towards women, & that Ike beat Tina to a pulp.

This is precisely one of the MANY reasons why I don't f%ck with Marvel's product.

[frick]ing Perlmutter & his BS if it were up to him we also wouldnt get civil war because of how cheap he is, or the actors would work for free etc.

Marvel IS awful.

I mean, Suicide Squad has more women and people of color IN COSTUME than the entirety of the MCU.

So I guess Green Lantern must've heralded the end of male-led superhero films because it was a disaster, right? Or X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Or Daredevil.

I'm sure all of these female-led movies that were mentioned here had NOTHING to do with how horribly written they were, and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that a woman as in the leading role. Yup.

Ike Perlmutter is a dinosaur who luckily has little to no creative input in the movies.

I've heard he's an asshole, and this email just proves that.

Why won't he retire already? The dude doesn't even give a shit about comic books.

Also, so there are three bad female super hero movies?

There are over a dozen terrible male-led super hero movies.

So what's the logic here? Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will hopefully shut this old [frick] up.

Wow everyone know how much they hate female movies just because they gave some examples of bad movies.

How do we know they weren't talking about making sure they do the best they can to not end like this movies.
Maybe they were saying they have to give a good name to female superheroes from now on.

But go ahead, bitch and whine. It's all this site can do.
BigFoster
BigFoster - 5/5/2015, 8:14 AM
So bad movies didn't make any money, there are plenty of bad movies with male leads that do not make any money either. Correlation does not imply causation. If there were a really good female lead superhero movie that did not do well then an argument could be made
