The news broke last October that Sarah Shahi had joined the cast of Black Adam as the film's female lead, and the Sex/Life actress recently confirmed that she'll be playing Adrianna Tomaz. Now, Shahi has spilled some more details, and may have revealed a little more than she realized!
Up until now, we assumed Teth Adam (Dwayne Johnson) would be introduced as an antagonist (at least, initially) of the Justice Society, but it sounds like the heroes will have their hands full going up against another group of villainous individuals.
“I play a character named Adrianna, and she’s a freedom fighter that’s leading this big resistance against an evil, malicious group called Intergang,” Shahi tells THR.
That's a pretty significant reveal! In the comics, Intergang was an organized crime group armed with technology supplied by Darkseid and his New Gods. The gang had dealing with both Tomaz and Black Adam in the pages of 52, which just so happen to be some of the issues Shahi teased as her research for the movie on Instagram.
Shahi joins previously announced cast members Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Marwan Kenzari and James Cusati-Moyer are also on board.
Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra is set to helm Black Adam, which has Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions on board as producers along with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani penned the screenplay, which is based off an early story draft from Adam Sztykiel.
We recently got our first look at some sets being constructed in Georgia, but we'll hopefully get to see more revealing photos now that filming is underway.
Black Adam is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
