BLACK PANTHER: Wakanda Was Nearly Introduced Much Sooner In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

We got our first glimpse of Wakanda in Captain America: Civil War and will visit the African nation for the first time in Black Panther. However, its debut nearly happened much, much sooner!

Wakanda will make its official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Panther next month but producer Nate Moore reveals that there were talks of bringing the fictional country to the big screen long before that. Remember that its existence was first hinted at in Iron Man 2 and Avengers: Age of Ultron would have been a good place for it to appear given the appearance of Klaw and Vibranium.

While he doesn't specify where Wakanda could have come into play, Moore did shed some light on why Marvel decided to hold off on introducing the home of T'Challa and his family until this year.

"We talked about it. And the truth was, there was so much to bite off that we didn’t want to waste it. We could have gone there a couple of times before. There were iterations of other scripts where we did go to Wakanda. But we didn’t want to tease it without a full idea of what it was going to be. We didn’t want to start locking into ideas without having a story or a filmmaker who had a full understanding of what the country was. All of those ideas fell to the wayside until we could spend a full movie on it."

We'll obviously get to revisit Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos' Black Order attacks (seemingly on the hunt for the Soul Stone) but it will be Black Panther which really delves deep into the nation. Are you disappointed we had to wait this long to see the comic book country on the big screen?

The more I see of this movie the more I'm liking the aesthetic of Wakanda which was one of the fears I had for this movie. Still not too keen on the music choice shown so far and interested in seeing how they bring a fictional culture to life but will wait and see

@Ace006 - Why don’t you like the music choice?

@superbigguy32 - Yeah I think the music has been great. Everytime I hear Vince Staples song Bag Bak (from trailer 2)i get hyped.

@Ace006 - ....don't think Black Sabbath was appropriate for this movie!

@Ace006 - the music is the #1 reason I haven’t gotten too hyped for this. My hype is based solely on it being a serious marvel movie starring a cool character. The trailers were annoying to watch.

@BloodyBed - What’s wrong with the music...? I’m just asking because I’m hearing a lot of complaints and I don’t understand people’s reasoning.

@Ace006 - @BloodyBed - Not everyone likes hip hop and that's fine. But the MCU is expansive and diverse. The music choice is quite perfect for the movie and its vibe. You can dislike the music but understand it does fit; especially for us hip hop heads.

Btw, not trying to argue. I just want to offer another perspective.

@suitekid - Yo, the fact they're using an artist like Vince Staples indicates there are true hip hop heads flipping switches back there. Sooooooo tired of hollywood using some played out mainstream shit. Not to mention RTJ on the first trailer. I ran that trailer back so many times. And how the beat went with the glare on the logo at the end.....man. I am proud af at what they're doing.

@superbigguy32 - They're just not fans of hip hop. It's their opinion but I do hope more can try to be better cultured. Remember, once upon a time Rock music was "devil" music and abrasive to people's ears. Lol

@superbigguy32 @Ace006 - @BloodyBed @Tonic24k @incredibleTalk - The music is a damn cliché. Every time there's an all black cast, some "genius" thinks there has to be a rap soundtrack (this is done on television, as well). Luke Cage, Black Panther, Black Lighting, ALL back to back and ALL with a rap soundtrack. It's ridiculous. Just give him a film score. How hard is that?

superbigguy32 - 1/25/2018, 9:40 AM
@Tonic24k - Yeah man I understand that, I know why they probably don’t like rap/hip-hop, but it’s all types, not just the popular, booty shaking/twerking, gangster rap stuff.

@Luminus - I get what you’re saying but hip-hop/R&B is apart of the African culture. With the Beats, drums, and soulful music I understand why it’s associated with Black Panther, Luke Cage, & Black Lightning. It’s like watching a film with Hispanic theme, you’re gonna hear those types of music associated with that culture. It’s like Iron Man, when the main theme was Black Sabbath’s Iron Man song.

Tonic24k - 1/25/2018, 10:08 AM
@Luminus - It's not cliche at all. Cliche is when they use played out music. And yeah, having a predominant black cast warrants a culturally complimenting soundtrack. So no, film score would just be what people that don't like hip hop want. And that's lack of culture. I guess accepting black culture is just really hard for some people.

@superbigguy32 @incredibleTalk @BloodyBed Tonic24k @Luminus - Its not the music itself that annoys me I happen to like the songs and Kendrick its the fact that their American which I don't think is appropriate for this movie considering its an African country that has been closed off to the outside world for a long time if they want to use hip hop thats fine but at least use an African artist instead of an American

@superbigguy32 - "Iron Man" wasn't exactly the main theme, it just sounded as hard as iron and had a very fitting title. But Iron Man is purely American and Black Sabbath is straight outta England.

Let's hope there's a couple of blues tracks as well in BP.
BloodyBed

@superbigguy32 - I mean, I just think it sounds bad. I even like hip hop, just not that kind.

I think some tribal music would've been more fitting

something like this, but more intense.

@Tonic24k -

"cli·ché
klēˈSHā/Submit
noun
1.
a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.
"the old cliché “one man's meat is another man's poison.”"
synonyms: platitude, hackneyed phrase, commonplace, banality, old saying, maxim, truism, stock phrase, trite phrase; old chestnut
"a good speechwriter will steer clear of clichés"
2.
PRINTINGBRITISH
a stereotype or electrotype."

Oh, yeah, a black man (me) is having a really hard time accepting my own culture. That makes sense.

@superbigguy32 - Cultural-based soundtracks don't belong in comicbook films. Can you imagine if they made a Magneto film and all the trailers had a Jewish melody playing? That would take you out of the movie. Are we going to get a Spanish soundtrack for the Miles Morales film? It's just wrong. Having one culturally appropriate song is one thing, but don't build your whole movie around that sound.

When I hear the Flash soundtrack, it's not white people's culture. It's the Flash. Period. That's how it's supposed to be.

@Luminus - Womp womp. I know what cliche is and putting hip hop music to a trailer isn't that. Movie score for the trailer fits that criteria much more tho.

Also, culture and race are different. You've seemed to have confused those. So your argument is quite shaky.

And finally, you're opinion is simply YOUR opinion. But the vast majority is feeling these trailers and the music chosen to be in them. Easy as that.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 1/26/2018, 1:24 PM
@BloodyBed - Then what kind of hip hop do you like?....
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 1/26/2018, 1:30 PM
@BloodyBed - @Luminus - Tribal music would be dope. But again, this would be unwise marketing. Hip hop is the most popular genre of music world wide. It's the perfect movie to use hip hop to get people hype for this. A trailer is marketing, not someone's opportunity to make an artistic expression for themselves. And seeing as how BP's pre-sales are thru the roof....they nailed it.
Luminus
Luminus - 1/26/2018, 8:04 PM
@Tonic24k - Race is not a thing, just something racist whites (religious ones) made up to subjugate people they didn't like, so your argument falls flat already. And the vast majority went along with Jim Crow laws, so yet another aspect of your argument falls flat.

You must be really young or white. It's the only explanation for this. I'd be really disturbed, if you were black and over 30.

Anyway, I'm out.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 1/27/2018, 2:48 PM
@Luminus - You just made this something it's not. Firstly, I don't disagree. Race IS a social construct with no genetic merit. However, that doesn't make it "not a thing". It's a classification of humans with distinguishing physical features based on ancestry. And the only time it's racist is when one is deemed inferior. And ironically, you just used it as a device to attempt insulting me. So before you start thinking you're all-knowing, check yourself first because you're arguing against something much different than what I said. Race and culture are different things. Nothing you said changes or threatens that from being a valid statement.
