On Friday, ComicBookMovie.com was among the outlets present for the Black Widow global press conference. We'll have lots of great content to bring you from that over the coming days, but one question saw Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige asked whether future movies could follow Black Widow by delving into the past of the characters who inhabit the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After all, it could be fun to pick up with Bruce Banner between the events of The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers, or even someone like Gamora before she appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy.

As for Feige's take on future movies following Black Widow's example, he said: "Well, certainly this film and this story is a particular case for Natasha, but the notion of exploring the past, present, and future of the MCU is certainly in the cards for all of our characters. This particular story, this particular cast, is very personal, very specific, to Natasha."
 


Natasha Romanoff died in Avengers: Endgame, so it was necessary to revisit her past in a Black Widow movie. While Marvel Studios does constantly seem to look ahead to the future, going back to fill in some gaps in the MCU's history would be no bad thing, and might even set up some new stories.

Black Widow is set to be released in theaters and on Disney+'s Premier Access on July 9.

I'd be down for a hulk movie or tv series set between infinity war and endgame that explores the character and how bruce and hulk came to terms with each other, but that's it. Never been a big fan of prequel honestly, you already have a general idea of how they will end, takes away a lot of the tension and suspense.

As much as this film is a send-off for Natasha, I think what makes it work as a prequel is IT SEEMS to be a set-up and introduction for Yelena as the new Black Widow. By going into Nat’s origin and backstory it now gives us the opportunity to be introduced to and gain Yelena’s backstory as well, and it just happens to be tied closely to Nat’s.

There aren’t really any characters I’d currently want any sort of prequels for, aside from maybe Nick Fury or Hank Pym and Janet, but I’m not sure what sort of new characters and elements could be introduced in those to justify their existence

This movie IMO should have been a true prequel. By that I mean when she was a Russian agent and Hawkeye was sent to kill her but instead ended up recruiting her. You can throw the Budapest incident in there so we can finally see what that's about. Winter soldier could be her ally before she defects. Some nice ingredients for a good flick.

I think there's a difference between prequel origin stories and actual prequels. Captain America TFA & Captain Marvel are 'prequels' from an in-universe continuity standpoint but they're really at their core just origin stories that wink at what the audience already knows about the future

Black Widow is really their first touch on a true prequel, at least as it pertains to this being a prequel to Infinity War. I think it's an interesting angle to take, and if they are able to tell a great story that has it's own self contained stakes, then it's place in continuity becomes mostly irrelevant to me. There's obviously the normal anti MCU contrarianism and the anti CM culture war bullshit embedded in the complaints we've been seeing about this movie since forever, but putting that aside, there seems to be a lot of general skepticism around prequels in general (likely worsened by how bad much of the Star Wars/LOTR/Harry Potter prequels have been). For me tho, a prequel that is more concerned with using the past as a unique color palette rather than an opportunity for hyper-navel gazing has a strong potential to be worthwhile. If the writers are able to use 2017 as a means for a heartfelt story centered around Natasha, I'd be more than down to see Marvel do this sort of thing elsewhere, whether it's Cap and Logan in a WW2 film/flashback or even something related to a character like Drax, a guy who definitely needs to be explored outside of the Guardians imo

This is actually between Civil War and Infinity War, that's why she's still got the red hair here and has Yelena's vest in Infinity War

That said, I don't know if some parts of this take place post Infinity War as well
