In a move that was probably inevitable, Disney has officially announced that Marvel Studios' Black Widow will debut on Disney+ Premier Access at the same time it hits theaters.
The Cate Shortland-directed prequel, which will see Scarlett Johansson return as Natasha Romanoff, was set for a theatrical release on May 7, but has now been pushed back to July 9 when it will be made available to Disney+ subscribers for an extra $30.
Additionally, Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has moved to September 3. Cruella will also get a day and date theatrical and Disney+ Premier Access release on May 28, and Luca will skip theaters altogether and hit Disney+ June 18.
"Today’s announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences. By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world,” said Kareem Daniel, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution chairman.
