BLACK WIDOW Release Officially Pushed Back Due To Coronavirus Concerns

According to Variety, Disney/Marvel Studios has officially pushed back the release of Black Widow.

The first (and last) solo outing for Scarlett Johansson's Fallen Avenger was scheduled to hit theaters on May 1. The studio also pulled The Personal History of David Copperfield, and The Woman in the Window.

Disney still has Artemis Fowl scheduled for May 29 and Pixar's Soul for June 19.

As it is with the other movies and TV shows forced to shut down or postpone production (basically everything on every studio's slate for March and April), we have no idea when the Cate Shortland-directed film will see the light of day. We're just going to have to wait and see how this whole miserable situation plays out and hope for an update soon.

"In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, “Black Widow”—the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—hits U.S. theaters on May 1, 2020." --Marvel Studios."

Black Widow also stars Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, William Hurt, Ray Winstone and Olivier Richters. Let us know if you're looking forward to the movie in the comments.

@PantherKing - The right thing to do would be to release it on Disney+, but whatevs.

@soberchimera - Exactly at $19.99 a rental.

@soberchimera - They will make more money putting it on cinemas or at least VOD/pay per view, than Disney+

@SonOfAGif - Seriously, going to the theater is more of chore these days than an experience, it's time to let the box office go.

@soberchimera - Yeah it is. They could do two things. A $19.99 basic rental with 24 hours of viewing. Or a $49.99 bundle rental that ensures you get the digital copy upon home release as well as a 48hr rental of the release.

@soberchimera - They could do what Universal is about to do and stream it for about $20.00. That way they can still makes good money and "then" release it at the theaters when they finally open. The run won't be as long, but then it shouldn't be because there will be a big, long line of other films waiting to be shown in the theaters.

@soberchimera - It would lose them money. I’d rather watch a movie in a theater than on my couch.

@soberchimera - no, that would be stupid. The movie would be pirated within hours. Think before write.

Inevitable and a shame, but the right move

@Armageddon26 - really its the only move. Several theaters are closing indefinitely.

Good. I know I wouldn't have risked going to see it and I've been aboard the hype train since it was announced.

This will make even more money when it finally does release. The pent up anticipation and frustration make a profitable combination.

@GeneralZod - That's if theaters will still be in business

@SonOfAGif - They will, but that's not to say they won't seek bankruptcy protection. Some almost certainly will file for Chapter 11 protection from creditors to keep operating ....
