Following the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is the MCU's new Captain America. We've already seen him embark on one mission, but it will be Captain America: New World Order that sees the former Falcon finally take centre stage.
Anthony Mackie made his MCU debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and during a recent red carpet interview with E! News, he revealed that there's one specific scene in the 2014 blockbuster he hopes to top as the new Cap.
Confirming that "[we're] in pre-production, we're getting it all together to start shooting next year," Mackie added, "I want a fight scene that rivals Chris Evans' fight scene in the elevator [in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Solider] when he fought like 10 dudes in the elevator. That was a badass scene."
"The first time I saw that, I was like, ‘That's crazy,'" he continued. "So I just want a fight scene that rivals that."
During this conversation, Mackie was also asked if we've seen the last of Evans as Steve Rogers in the MCU. We still don't know what became of the former Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame, and the actor doubled down on past claims that Evans is done with the role.
"Chris is so far gone from Marvel," Mackie joked. "Like, Marvel is not even in his radius. He's so far gone. He's enjoying life. He's like an old retired dude."
Despite that, the Captain America: New World Order star remains firm friends with Evans and Bucky actor Sebastian Stan. "It's not often you come across people you work with who you sincerely miss and consider friends. Fortunately, between the three of us, we're actually friends. We go to each other's houses and spend birthdays together."
It's cool to hear that they've remained friends, but a shame all signs are pointing to Evans not returning as Captain America. The character's fate will need to be addressed at some point unless we're supposed to believe Steve just died off camera, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for Marvel Studios right now.
Captain America: New World Order arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024.
