CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Concept Art Gives Baron Zemo A Mask And Some Badass Body Armor

We know Zemo will sport a more comic-accurate look when Daniel Brühl reprises the role in The Falcon & The Winder Soldier, but it looks like there were early plans for the villain to mask-up for Civil War.

The version of Helmut Zemo that was introduced in Captain America: Civil War is generally considered to be one of the best villains we've seen in the MCU so far, despite being almost a complete reinvention of his Marvel Comics counterpart. The fact that he never donned a costume also remains a sticking point for some fans, but it looks like there were early plans to give The Baron his signature mask - and some badass body armor!

Marvel artist Andy Park has shared some unused concept art to his Instagram page, featuring an alternate costume design for Civil War's antagonist.

To be fair, it wouldn't have made much sense for Zemo to suit-up like this in the movie as he wasn't directly involved in any action sequences. This early design seems to suggest that a third act altercation with Cap, Iron Man and Bucky may have been on the table early on.

What do you guys make of this concept art? Are you disappointed we didn't get to see this incarnation of Zemo in Civil War?

Drop us a comment in the usual place, and keep and eye out for a new look at the character in The Falcon and The Winder Soldier very soon!

It's all good because we're going to get in Falcon and the winter soldier

Top 3 MCU villain for me. Thanos obviously 1, Zemo 2, and Killmonger three.

Can't wait to see what he's gonna do in F&WS

Not a fan of the mask, personally. The rest looks okay though.

Kind of Cobra Commander-y

But looks cool.

@AzulaCipher - Yeah, The Hand seems to have been cucked by Loeb unfortunately. Also, I remember getting serious Dark Knight vibes from Daredevil Season 3; not so much in terms of plot, but in terms of how both of them ramped up their intensity in such a white knuckle kind of way

@AzulaCipher - In terms of comparisons, they were also about an established villain corrupting a side character into being a secondary villain and the hero battling with his own no-kill rule.
Also yeah, I think that's one of the reasons those films worked so well; having such a grounded villain made everything feels so tense because of how tangible his actions felt in the world of the movie. It's one of the reasons I think Snyder's films don't hold a candle; the bad guys there were either punching through buildings until you felt numb, or giant video game characters. Just made the action feel boring, imo

If I had been the one making the movie, I would have had him wear a purple ski mask or the like when he drove to that HYDRA base with a snowmobile as a little inside joke. Probably better they didn't do that, otherwise him wearing the mask in the upcoming show would seem goofy.

@AzulaCipher - I just think if he first had purple ski mask and then his purple "super-villain mask", you would get memes about Zemo's purple mask obsession or the like.

I really like that look. Something creepy and strange about it.

It was a massive disappointment when he didn’t have the mask, in fact he was pretty disappointing as a villain full stop. Hopefully they will redeem themselves in the Falcon & The Winter Soldier. It’s very odd how Marvel whilst getting so much right do tend to shy away from being too comic accurate on some things only for them to get picked up on it once the films released.

@Spike101 - I really enjoyed how they established him. We don't need the mask right away. It's intelligent character development. Don't give us everything at once...draw it out.

His armor kind of reminds me of Batmans armored suit in BvS.

Anyone know when they'll drop a new trailer for this.
