CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR's Anthony Mackie Isn't Too Keen On A Solo Outing For The FALCON

"Cut the check!" - During a recent interview with IGN, Anthony Mackie was asked about his feelings toward a solo Falcon outing and, well, his response was a little surprising to say the least.

Captain America: Civil War will be Anthony Mackie's fourth appearance as Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and with those appearances racking up, it's natural to wonder whether Mackie would ever be interested in headlining his own solo feature.

While promoting his latest release Triple 9, Mackie spoke with IGN about his thoughts on a potential solo Falcon adventure and surprisingly enough, he didn't sound too enthusiastic about it, but he did have some pretty solid reasoning as to why: "No I don’t know man. I don’t know. I like going to work with good people. Like shooting this movie [Triple 9] it wasn’t really work. We got to hang out and have a good time and really get to know each other. I’ve admired Aaron Paul’s work long before Breaking Bad. I’ve admired Chiwetel [Ejiofor]'s work. Kate [Winslet] is admirable. So to be able to go to work and meet these people and see the way they work and kind of delve into their process as well is really a learning experience for me. So I feel like when you go to work and it’s just you and it’s me - ‘Look at me, haha’ - it takes away from that." When further prodded on the matter and whether he would actually turn down the offer for a solo movie if the opportunity presented itself: "I don’t know, I don’t know. That means my dudes are not going to be there. So Chris [Evans] is not going to be there. Sebastian [Stan] is not going to be there."

When it was suggested that Cap & Bucky could cameo in his hypothetical movie, Mackie was still reluctant, saying that the process woud be hard on his buddy Chris Evans: "No, no. Then that week is going to be hell. Hanging out with Chris for a week and then he’s like ‘I don’t want to leave!’ And I’m like ‘Chris dude, you gotta leave.’ You know, it’s just going to be a problem." With that kind of loyalty, it certainly sounds like that Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson friendship extends way beyond the silver screen as Mackie & Evans seem to be as tight off-screen as their big screen counterparts are on it.

So, what do you guys think? Would you want to see a solo Falcon movie? Or would you rather he take on Cap's mantle in a potential Captain America 4? Sound off with your thoughts below!

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War will feature:
Directors: Anthony & Joe Russo
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon

IMO he could not carry a movie on his own......not hating at all.

Give me a Black Widow movie and sprinkle in Hawkeye and Falcon........I would love to see that.

@JoeMomma29 - I'm down with that, along with Fury! That's what a "Agents of shield" movie should of been. A spy thriller like winter solider/the new mission impossible movies style.

I guess then that means if cap dies in civil war then Bucky will take over.

The first time I've seen Mackie seem genuinely humbled by anything. As much as I enjoy his antics, this is a good look for him, too.

And he's amazing as Falcon, and I'd love to see him as a supporting character for Cap and as a principle member of the Avengers for a long long time.

Or hey, if Marvel wants to get in on the low budget R-rated Deadpool pie...

How about an adaptation of Fraction's Hawkeye series with Falcon as a co-lead and the mafia bring in Taskmaster instead of the weird mime hitman.

Actually, scratch Hawkeye since he's a family man country mouse. A lot of that comic would actually work better with MCU's Wilson instead.

Yeah, I'm mentally editing Fraction's run and a lot of it works with Wilson's personality from the movies. Obviously some of it doesn't match up perfectly (the bow and arrow stuff doesn't instantly translate to the wings), but it's probably a better fit for Falcon than Renner's Clint would be.

I love MAckie as this character, so I'd certainly watch a Falcon film any day of the week.

That being said, it'd need to make sense. I would love if the MCU gets to a point where he can take up the Cap mantle. After Bucky does his time, of course.

I'd love a Falcon movie, and I don't really see why it couldn't work.
But before that, I'd like to see a Black Widow movie and a War Machine movie.

Mackey simply didn't want to address the elephant in the room. He knows that a solo Falcon movie would be less popular than that dreadful Spawn movie of the 90's. There simply isn't a demand for his character or any African American based character outside of Black Panther in a solo outing and if other more popular franchise characters cameo in his movie then it will take the focus off of him.

@BlackHulk - Well Luke Cage is getting a solo outing so.......

@BlackHulk - Utter nonsense piled upon utter nonsense. First off, the Spawn movie wasn't great, to be sure. But "dreadful?" Not really.

And as far as "demand for his character (Falcon) or any other African American-bsed character outside of Black Panther" that's quite the heap of bs.

For instance, do you know why there's going to be a Black Panther movie?

It has less to do with demand that Kevin Feige thinks that it will work (which goes without saying that he thinks that there will be an audience for it, though there's also the cry for more diversity in front and behind the camera).

Besides, you have no idea what the demand for African American characters is. You have your opinion, which you stated above–disguised as if it were some sort of popular mandate–other than that...

Falcon should be demoted to the Defenders and Iron Fist should be promoted to the Avengers.

I like it! flashback to The Shelter, show how he overcomes having BRabbit spill his guts with a mic. Papa Doc leaves Free World and joins the military where he runs into his wingman Riley (also played by Chris Evans so they could hang out more).

Flash forward to today and Falcon is sitting down in avengers tower while Redwing is streaming some old rap battles and Riley flys through the window, its actually Eminem and boom Future shows up and we have a Rap battle to end the movie.
