Is Civil War Too Crowded?

Good thing I was born! If I wasn't here who else in the world could possibly answer these questions?

As glad as I am that Whedon has brought us this far in the MCU, I'm glad that the Russo's are taking his place. After the Winter Soldier, I have no doubt that they will knock it out of the park. Even with as large of an ensemble as it is. They balanced character development, plot, action, and humor almost perfectly.

eh, kinda.
althouGH, and call me a SJW, but wouldn't mind some more diversity in that cast.
Like, congrats on the New Avengers team on having two women, two people of color, and an android, but seriously, Civil War has three women and three non white people. you know, maybe throw in Cho, who was shown to be at the Avengers training facility, or Pepper, or Shuri, or Nick Fury, or Maria Hill, or Hope

...im still paying for this movie but still

Just like Batman v Superman, it depends on how it's handled. But as of now it seems more like an Avengers movie than a Captain America one. Although I'll have to see it first before I can make that kind of judgement.

It's ambitious, I respect ambition.

It's not overcrowded because it still needs Norman Osborn and Quicksilver

@WinterOstritch... Ok, I'll say it. You are being a bit like a SJW. The new Avengers team, at the end of Age of Ultron, was Cap, Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Vision. That's only one white American male, the demographic that usually dominates a group in most movies. If anything, Cap is the token in this group. Don't get me wrong, I love the team, although Rhodie needs a serious upgrade. My only beef with the team is that we won't get to see them as a team for very long, if at all.

And as far as Cap 3 goes... A more valid argument might be had if you were focusing on the fact that the two main characters are white American males, which just about every superhero movie has been about. But as far as the rest of the cast? Add Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, Ant Man, Black Panther, Agent 13 and Spider-Man (I'm just counting confirmed heroes right now, and I'm not counting villains, because it seems Marvel is terrified of making one of it's villains non-white. C'mon, Marvel... Grow a pair and give us the Mandarin!). So that's 6 American white males, 3 white females, 3 Black males and a robot. All I'm trying to say is that the heroes are a far cry from the first Avengers team as far as diversity goes, but they could obviously have more I guess.

I think it's great that Marvel is going to focus on some of their heroes that are not white males. Heck, I think Falcon is kind of dumb in the comics, but I think he was great in the films, and I really want to see his character developed more as the Falcon. And I can't wait for the Black Panther and Captain Marvel films. I love those characters, but not because of their race and sex. Because they are kick-ass characters.

In closing, I get your point, and it is a valid one, but teel things are heading in the right direction. And let's be thankful we are getting these movies in the first place and hopeful that Marvel all does these characters justice. And PLEASE give Rhodie an upgrade. He's called War Machine, for pete's sake. Right now, he looks like the Go-Bot to Iron Man's Transformer.

I'm kind of worried. The writers for Captain America are great at story arcs and story in general, but Whedon is the best at characters, and he had trouble with 10 main characters and several supporting characters, and while this movie will focus on Cap, they're load is much more complex than simply balancing characters. There is an obligation to several story arcs in the movie, and if they don't do them all, I can't help but feel I will be disappointed. An example would be building up the romance between Vision and Wanda, which they have to do before Infinity War, because that movie will have a bajillion characters, and focus on plot and Thanos solely. There are several of these mini arcs that they need to do before Infinity War, and they all have to be in done in Civil War because none of these characters appear in any other films before then. Not only that, but they need to focus on the main arcs and characters in the movie, make sure it all stays relevant and coherent, while introducing 3 of Marvel's fan favorite characters. Yeah, I'd say their work is cut out for them. If they pull this off, then 2016 will truly be the pinnacle of the heroic age.

We already know these characters. It isn't llike this is the first time we are seeing them on film, aside from Zemo and some others possibly. Just look at team based comics. Not every story has to focus on every character on the team. Despite what a lot of people think, skme characters can be there without being as important as others.

I look for Cap, Iron Man, Zemo, Winter Soldier, and Crossbones to be the main characters. Much like how the X-Men films focus on 5 or 6 main characters but their cast is usually has 2 or 3 times as many people in them.

@TomSolo thank you for the non rude comment I was expecting to get from someone ^ on another look, yeah, things are getting better than what they were, Atleast in terms of people who aren't white. I'll still argue that maybe a few more women could be nice, but looking at the fact that Civil War is going to be set heavily in several global locations, Africa being a big one apparently, and with Wakanda on the way, that it's not all bad.

Also on the note of War Machine, yeah. His armor is kinda getting dull on me, and for a character that no one really cares for in the first place, that's not helping it xP

We shouldn't see any of the Goblins for a very long time. Quicksilver is dead and should stay dead.
TheEpicJuicebox
TheEpicJuicebox - 6/8/2015, 7:34 PM
@ClumsyToaster I agree with the goblins thing but I'm talking about NORMAN and just norman to have an underlying presence as one of Starks benefactors but quicksilvers death was pointless and should be brought back because Wanda by herself totally gets rid of the sibling dynamic, which was the reason why they were brought to the mcu in the first place

@TandAFan - "It all depends on how it's handled. Sure it has the potential to be crowded but it all depends how the Russos direct and how good the writing is."

And the Russo brothers know a thing or two about ensemble casts!
