Marvel may be hurrying to find a new composer for this fall's Thor: The Dark World film, currently in post-production and possibly reshooting, but Henry Jackman was attached to score next summer's Captain America: The Winter Soldier film way back in March. Sharing his views and approach to the Marvel sequel while speaking recently with Film.Music.Media, promoting This Is the End, the British composer shared vague story details, having read The Winter Soldier script and its many revisions.
"What's interesting about the new Captain America movie is that he's now a fish out of water in a completely contemporary society," he says. "You know, the origin of Captain America is a superhero who can unquestioningly believe that the American government could be a democracy, and freedom could be spread without fear of contradiction; of course, the world correcting the ills of other evil and hideous regimes." Jackman continues, "If you would have done Captain America in 2013, it's a more politically confused landscape. And that comes through in the story; Steve Rogers is at odds with the society he lives in, he's at odds with some of the things he's being asked to do. He's more questioning, and there's a whole back story, which I can't give too much away, but it's emotionally haunting him. So, there's many more aspects which make [the film] more psychologically explorative, and darker and more morally ambiguous." What do you think?
