Yesterday, we had word from Smulders that Maria Hill is very much apart of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, despite being absent from the film's first trailer. In a new interview, Smulders adds, "It's another installment of an amazing Marvel film. It's exciting for me because I get to suit up again but it takes place right after The Avengers, "The Battle of New York" has just happened. It's really about [working within] the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, which my character Maria Hill is a big part of. It's showing the inner workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. and how it's very flawed at the moment."
Despite being released after Iron Man 3, it looks as if the events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier will occur beforehand. If you recall, Iron Man 3 picks up 6 months after "The Battle of New York" but according to Smulders, Captain America: The Winter Soldier starts immediately after that climactic showdown in the Big Apple. Perhaps the fallout from The Winter Soldier leaves S.H.I.E.L.D. in such disarray that they're unable to come to Tony's (Robert Downey Jr.) aid in Iron Man 3? We also know Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. occurs after Iron Man 3 and that an upcoming episode deals directly with the fallout from Thor: The Dark World.
UPDATE: Here's more from Smulders, courtesy of
Zap2It."I think we just haven't seen much of [Maria Hill]. I think that's why I was so excited to do 'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD' because I was like oh my gosh I get to do like full talking walking scenes, this is so exciting! In these big Marvel movies, there's so many more important people than me in this film that I even I want to see more than I want to see myself on screen. I think it was just fun to get a moment to sort of talk in character, especially to talk to Coulson. I think [Captain America: The Winter Soldier's] a little bit different. I think, because it is about SHIELD, they're showcasing more of SHIELD, but there's a lot of stuff that's going down with it. [Maria Hill] will say words.
