Howling Commandos to Appear In Captain America Movie!

CHUD has revealed a new tidbit regarding the Captain America movie: Nick Fury's special military team will definitely make an appearance.

Devin Faraci of CHUD caught up with Marvel President, Kevin Fiege, after the Iron Man 2 press conference today. Feige confirmed to him that the Howling Commandos will show up in The First Avenger: Captain America.

Kevin Feige specifically stated,"The characters will be there as part of the larger Marvel Universe,. From what I get out that quote, The Howling Commandos may not be called exactly that, and will be either soldiers fighting with Cap, or actual army commandos.

For those who aren't familar with the Howling Commandos group/comic, here's a brief bio:

The first group of Howling Commandos was an elite special unit formed in World War II. The original team consisted of Nick Fury, Corporal Thaddeus Aloysius Cadwallander "Dum Dum" Dugan, Private Gabriel Jones, Private Robert "Rebel" Ralston, Private Dino Manelli, Private Isadore "Izzy" Cohen and Private Jonathan "Junior" Juniper who was killed in action after the first few issues.

So with the Howling Comandoes, the Invaders, Bucky, and Sharron Carter, will Steve Rogers actually get any character development? I'm totally down for a 3 hour Cap movie (if it doesn't suck).

Awesome find MF - I'm guessing that they wont appear as a team (mainly down to the complications of explaining how Fury didnt age between WWII and the present) but as you said, will probably be there as soldiers fighting alongside Cap!

This saddens me. They can not have Fury as the CO of the commandos because he is played by Jackson. And if they do have him, it will be historically inaccurate.

I have a feeling that this is going to be like Wolverine, a cameo movie.

I love this! This is shaping up to be a bad ass action film. Hopefully this'll be the first time we get to see Nick Fury in action.

Maybe they could have the original Nick Fury in the movie and the Samuel Jackson one as well with a simple explaination: Nick Fury could be a type of code name. When someone becomes the head of SHIELD, they simply take on the name and title of Nick Fury, in honour of thw WW2 hero. That way there could be both versions of the character to satisfy fans.

didnt fury take some kinda formula that stopped him ageing! think he is ment to be like over 100 years old is he not!
could easily stick him in the cap movie and just bring the taking of said formula a bit,it didnt seem to harm iron man when stark came out in the first movie.

i'd rather have the howling commandos than the invaders. to many super-heroes at that point.

but soldiers? bring em on...

yeah, I just hope that Steve gets enough character development. This is Captain America, not marvel presents WWII. But I dont think the Howling commandos will be a problem. Cap has to run into regular troops at some point, and what better unit is there to lead? And we can even get some funky SHIELD set up for the Avengers.

The Howling Commandos? AND The Invaders?!?

Man.. is it me or is this movie absolutely crowded with Marvelly goodness??

win win WIN! This is great news no matter what they are called!

With the Howling Commandos AND the Invaders, I really hope they're not overloading this. It really has to be about Steve when it gets down to it, and he needs to really stand out. If you have all these really cool soldiers surrounding him in his solo movie, he won't be able to stand out as well as he should. Like jusme6 said, having so many character could take away from the development of Cap.
Anyway, maybe this could use white Nick Fury. Then later they could say that Nick Fury is an alias given to black Nick Fury inspired by the WW2 one.

I think that it sounds great, but I'm starting to worry that they're putting in too many characters. We already have the Invaders, and now we're getting the Commandos. I just hope they're able to keep Cap from being taken out of the spotlight.

It would make sense for Fury to be in the Cap movie. In the comics, the most important thing about Fury is that he's been around almost 100 years. It wouldn't make sense for Marvel to leave that out of the movies.

Cool. Alot of people in this movie. Hopefully it won't water down the story trying to fit all these players into it.

They really need to cameo Hugh Jackman during one of the WW2 scenes.
Paulley

You guys realize that The Invaders and Howling Commandoes are pretty much going to be merge together as a squad that works with Cap.

There just gonna have regular soldiers called Dum Dum Dugan, and Jim Hammond, Falsworth etc...
Paulley
Paulley - 4/23/2010, 4:35 PM
@ASSASSIN .. you'll be lucky

If there's a Nick Fury in this film, its going to be a white guy who takes a black wife... no long life pills.
StephenStrange

Agreed, Kenny. And they need to throw in something about how SHIELD science has kept him rompin' and stompin' all these years.

@Paulley I agree about Nick Fury as a white Colonel in World War II who has a Black wife and names his son after himself and coincidentally loses the same eye. Haha it sounds funny but I think it would actually be a good easter egg and nod to the Original Nick Fury. I actually included that in my Captain America fan fic that i wrote a while back.

shiftysharp - 4/23/2010, 4:50 PM
the howling commandos and the invaders could easily be put in the movie without overpowering it,christ how many others were in the Xmen movies without actually playing a massive part.
you have to remember from what is being said there is going to be a fair bit of the time where rogers is part of the USO.the howling commandos could be introduced at that point and later shown in a battle scene in the background and the invaders well lets face it there is only 3 of them not including rogers and bucky so it aint that much of a stretch!

flames809 - 4/23/2010, 4:53 PM
i would just stay with the black nick fury hes cooler and jackson did said he will go to europe to shoot some scene in captain america

@Shiftysharp Actually I think X-Men (the third one at least) did put too many characters in the movie without properly expanding on them. It was sad. Same with Spiderman 3.

Fury and dugan are the only two of any worth to put on screen anyway and the rest of the commandos could easily just be portraid by random extras,so if you look at it from that point of view it is a non issue really. (and yeah X3 did try to cram faaaaaaaar to many characters in,but the first two were not too bad :P)
