Excitement for Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, is oddly muted and there are already rumblings that it could underwhelm at the box office. Is superhero fatigue to blame or has the MCU delivered one too many misfires lately?
It's hard to say - we recently explored some of the possible reasons here - but the movie's marketing campaign has already resorted to teasing a big cameo.
Much has been said about The Marvels' surprisingly short runtime and we now have its final length courtesy of a leaker with a history of sharing accurate intel. It will indeed be Marvel Studios' shortest movie at 1 hour, 44 minutes, with the credits starting to roll at the 1 hour, 33 minutes mark.
We'd assume a couple of post-credits scenes will make up the subsequent 11 minutes but should you be worried about this news? It depends on who you ask.
From what we can gather, the sequel has been testing well and is a fun, breezy adventure rather than the epic blockbuster many believe it could and should have been. A lot has been cut from the movie and we're hearing some changes have been made to the ending that mean it now may or may not tie into the wider Multiverse Saga.
However, there is a post-credits scene that sounds like it's setting something big up so don't write this one off yet!
Press screenings for The Marvels should begin in the next few weeks and we'd guess that social media reactions will start doing the rounds in early November. As always, keep checking back here for the latest.
In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.
When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as "The Marvels."
The movie stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.
The Marvels is currently set to arrive in theaters on November 10.
