This news alone isn't so bad - Peter Parker has gone from working at the Daily Bugle to working in labs & other places, and the X - Men even changed their location from one coast to the other. Their still the same heroes.

But, by being detached from so much i.e Lois, the Daily Planet etc, I'm starting to wonder if this Clark Kent will even be recognisable to fans.

The question in the first paragraph is part of what superman is. While he is the most powerful person on the planet, he is also one of the most humble. He was raised that way and it is part of who he is. This is the kind of thing I expect these days though. When everyone says they need to make Superman darker. Meanwhile he is meant to be a light and a symbol of the best in all of us.

I support it. Gotta make Clark more relatable to the modern age. The Daily Planet is an important part of the Superman mythos, and always will be, but the most powerful man in the world working at a print publication in the age of the Internet is as dated as him wearing his undies over his pants.

Clark working as a reporter was always about him getting close to stories so he could make a difference as both Clark Kent AND Superman. It gave him the inside track as a hero to get information he needed to fight villains and criminals. If he's still doing that, I don't see the harm. That doesn't mean I have to agree with Lobdell's lame-ass quote.

haven't been keeping up with this series, but this seems to be getting very un-supermany. peter parker isn't a photgrapher anymore though, so i guess they can find something else for clark to do that still makes sense.

Clark's left the Daily Planet before, and always made it back. Need I remind everyone that he did television news reports in the 70's, and was fired in the late 90's to become an author... it won't last.

im with it. everyone else in comics gets to change, why shouldn't superman/clark kent. him getting fed up with his job at 27 gives him a level of reliability (which is a general complaint amongst people who say superman is an over powered 1 dimensional character).

@DarkGrifter Clar Kent is not a persona. He IS Clark. He was "born" Clark. He grew up as Clark. Superman is what he can do.


But, yeah, why even keep Clark around? make him be Superman 24/7. With npo attachment to Ma and Pa and his friedns. Seems like this is what the kids thinks is cool nowadays.


@ManOfSuperguy they are changing the character so much (being more "alien", detached from humanity - eg always hovering around, like he is superior to his fellow JLers.

WOW!!! I really like the new costume change for Superman. But having him quit the Daily Planet!? CK has been working for the Daily Planet in the Superman comics for years. I'm not really sure where Londell is going with this storyline? I hope it pay's off.

It's the red underwear all over again. Everytime dc dares trying something different, fanboys throw a [frick]ing hissyfit. What a [frick]ing annoying bunch. It's no wonder Comics aren't taken seriously.

Working at the Daily Planet isn't what makes Clark who he is.

Aaaand not to mention that print is dying. Newsweek will cease print publications by the end of 2012, after damn near 8 decades.

So it actually makes sense.

@codydriscollrightarm print is dyng, but news outlets aren't. A lot of newspapers are going digital. It's not in the character - at least before Flashpoint - to just wuit cause his boss was pressuring him.

And, if they wanted to make it more modern, dailyplanet.com.

PS: most people have a problem with two things about the new costume: 1) it's poorly designed. 2) it's an armour.

Listen, I'm not a big DC fan, so this may be the wrong take on the whole thing. Maybe I'm not sensitive enough. HOWEVER, newpaper reporters are in a dying profession. Newspapers are folding and magazine are ending print production. Maybe this just makes sense as an update. It is a dying profession. If his profession was originally a blacksmith and we decided to make him work in a garage fixing cars, that would make sense as an update. Maybe this is the same thing.

you have got to be shitting me. more of this 'superman is a god' writing. clark kent is a mild-mannered guy. he's a good person. even naive sometimes. there is more to him than his superpowers. write about that.

not all this boring, angsty shit. with him throwing a hissy fit about not getting 'the star treatment that he deserves'.

superman ain't no diva. he's superman, he perseveres through this shit.

like i said before, the problem isn't so much the change as it is him acting out of some superiority complex. it's completely against what superman stands for.

he doesn't protect people because he thinks he's a god. he protects people because he feels a moral obligation to, due to his powers. he doesn't feel that he's above humans, he acts the way he does because he thinks he's one of them.

i usually don't get worked up about much on the internet, but when they start [frick]ing around with the core of a character that i have invested in for nearly 3 decades, i get pissed.
