We had heard that J.J. Abrams' recent deal with Warner Bros. TV would include several DC Comics series for the HBO Max streaming service in addition to Justice League Dark, and another project has now been announced: Madame X.
THR reports that the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director is set to team with Angela Robinson (Professor Marston & the Wonder Women, The L Word) on the show, which is based on DC Comics character Madame Xanadu. Abrams and his Bad Robot partner/wife Katie McGrath are said to have personally recruited Robinson to Warner Bros. TV with an eight-figure overall deal so she could write and supervise the series.
Xanadu is a powerful sorceress who made her comic book debut back in the '70s before going on to join the ranks of Justice League Dark. The character has previously appeared in the Young Justice animated series and made her live-action debut in the now defunct DC Universe Swamp Thing show. Whoever winds up being cast as the lead in Madame X is expected to feature in Abrams' JLD and possibly the Constantine series that's also in development.
Details on this one are few and far between, and an official logline is still under wraps.
