AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #26: Here's How Marvel Comics Kills Ms. Marvel (And How She Could Eventually Return)

We've known for weeks that Ms. Marvel will meet her maker in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #26, and you can find a full breakdown of what happens - and how Kamala Khan could eventually return - right here.

When pages from Amazing Spider-Man #26 somehow leaked online earlier this month, Marvel Comics wasted no time in very publicly spoiling the story in both an Entertainment Weekly article and across its social media accounts.

It was something of a knee-jerk reaction when only a small handful of people had seen those low-res leaked pages on social media, but the cat was out of the bag, and Ms. Marvel does indeed die in the issue that finally went on sale today.

Using her powers to shapeshift into Mary Jane Watson, Kamala Khan is killed by Benjamin Rabin/Wayeb, ultimately leading to the villain's downfall when he learns the sacrifice he made to his Gods was the wrong one. There's something unique about this wound, however, as Ms. Marvel is unable to heal from it.

As a result, she dies in Peter Parker's arms. The two heroes have rarely teamed up and they've only crossed paths on a handful of occasions while both working at Oscorp. The fact she died in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man is a tad bizarre, though we're assuming this will have a major impact on Spidey in the months ahead.

Unsurprisingly, the response from fans to Ms. Marvel dying as a minor supporting character in another hero's series hasn't been a particularly positive one.

There may, however, be a very good reason for that. We've heard rumblings about Kamala returning thanks to Krakoa's Resurrection Protocols, cementing the teenager as a mutant in the Marvel Universe and moving on from her being an Inhuman...which lines up with what we saw in Marvel Studios' Ms. Marvel!

Check out some of Amazing Spider-Man #26's key moments below.

Well why didn't those fans who didn't like how they handled her death support her books? That's the only reason this happened.

If anything they should feel lucky they even bothered to address her death at all.

@Origame - “ Well why didn't those fans who didn't like how they handled her death support her books? That's the only reason this happened.”

You really have no idea how this works. And clearly aren’t aware there currently isn’t even a book to support. And fans know she’ll be back. This is comics.

The upset is far more layered, nuanced, and justifiable. But, I’m not going to waste time talking to a wall that will do everything in its power to feign ignorance and has an immense lack of context.

@DTor91 - it doesn't have a book to support...because they've been canceled repeatedly due to low sales.

And of course you're not gonna bother describing how it's justified. 🙄

@DTor91 - I think you know he was alluding to the fact that she has had several runs that all got cancelled because of low sales - its exactly why she didn't have her own book at the moment.

And his point is still valid - if all of those complaining about this had actually bought her comics it probably wouldn't have happened or at least it would've happened in her own comic

OOF. The only thing worse than this gimmicky death is Johnny thinking that handlebar mustache is doing him any favors. 😬

Actually, now that I'm looking over it all again, WTF is up with those reactions from MJ, Norman, and the Fantastic Four? Half of them look mildly uninterested and the rest look half asleep? 🤨

What's with every article that this site writes about her death keep harping about her return? Jeez man, they just killed her off, let her be dead, what's with this constant hard on about "oh maybe this is how she returns, or maybe that way, oh let's make a top 10 list about Ms. Marvel's return"

I mean, nobody really cares, if they cared about her death, the book would've been supported and not cancelled 50 times.

Every hero eventually dies but not every hero truly lives.

I'm confused, I'm guessing these aren't concurrent pages but even so, why did she change her clothes to die?

How in the hell can the X-Men bring her back if she isn't a mutant? I'm behind on the Krakoa era books but has there been in update in the cloning process or have they always been able to clone non-mutants and I just don't remember? Another thing that confuses me is if she died an Inhuman, how does she magically come back as a mutant? 🤔

These comics are really comic'ing.

Kevin Feige: (Calls Zeb Wells) Hey Zeb, need a favor, you know that movie coming out in the fall? The Marvels?
Wells: What movie?
Feige: Exactly. Anyway, no one cares about any of the characters. We cant get anyone to watch the series about a character that we completely changed from the comics which no one buys.
Wells: Ok
Feige: We had her be the lead in the Avengers game
Wells: What game?
Feige: Exactly, server are shut down already. It did miserable. Anyway, can you like kill her off to generate some attention? This movie is going to bomb hard.
Wells: Ok, I can cram her into this hugely unpopular story in Amazing.
Feige: Great! sounds like standard operating procedure!
Wells: The Marvel way!
