Comic Book Resources have exclusively revealed our first look at new Marvel NOW! series, Young Avengers. As well as the cover above, below is an excerpt from an interview with Kieron Gillen, although you can hear more from the writer (including why he chose each of the team members) and artist Jamie McKelvie by clicking on the link below. What do you guys make of this take on the team? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

In this world the Avengers are almost civil servants or firemen or police. They work for the government and they're this enormous organization. But at the core? The real core of the Avengers? It's saving the world, because someone has got to, and that's what "Young Avengers" is about. They're called "Young Avengers" even though they're not Avengers. This is fundamentally about the ideal. It's about being a super hero. It's about saving the world because somebody has got to do it. So instead of picking up continuity and weaving it in. I'm doing weird riffs on it. I'm taking notes from the Avengers mythos and doing them in a completely different way. The first arc is pretty much Loki puts the Avengers together. And of course Loki did inadvertently put the original Avengers together, but why is he actively trying to put this team together? The first arc's major plot is basically a riff on the Ultron story, but it's not about Ultron. It's based around Wiccan and involves magic. It's your basic Hank Pym [frick]s up-style story [Laughs]. That's what Wiccan does and then they deal with it.

Miss America Chavez was introduced in the Vengeance miniseries and Marvel Boy has been around for AGES. Most recently, he was a member of the Avengers.

Meh. I'm with @UniBeam11.

Also, not really on topic, it really bothers me that Teddy's code name is "Hulkling." He's 1/2 Kree and 1/2 Skrull, with nothing whatsoever to do with the Hulk. He could have really used a re-brand in the "Marvel NOW!" relaunch.

i dig these characters but my problem with teen team books like this and teen titans and whatever else DC has is that i never really feel like they're "saving the world" - like if there was ever a true earth shattering threat looming and the young avengers discovered it - wouldn't they just call in the regular avengers or x-men?

Everything with Kid Loki + Gillen in it, is awesome, no matter what.

@Unibeam11

Stature and Vision(the model in young avengers) both died at the end of the Children's Crusade. Which is when the Young Avengers disbanded. Patriot hasn't been covered since then but seemed pretty disenchanted with the whole superhero idea after that event. It is honestly unknown where Speed is, during the Children's Crusade he got to connect with his mom's side of the family and showed an interest in them so who knows... without the team tying him down he could be anywhere. As this series is covering the young avengers re-assembling, my hope is they will at least give some explanation for where the others(Speed and Patriot) are and why they wouldn't rejoin... hell Patriot could be going to college for all we know.

@AlienRobotZombieOverlord The original intent that the team in universe had was to appear as though they were connected to the original heroes. Wiccan, then called Asgardian, only used Lightning magic to pass off like Thor. Teddy called himself Hulkling and would only shift into a hulk-like being and never grew wings or claws like he would later. When they realized it was stupid to be holding back they become their own people but they already liked their code-names. Wiccan only changed his because Kate(Hawkeye) pointed out what the tabloids would do with Asgardian once they found out he and Hulkling were a couple. And they suggested a few alternate names for Hulkling but he didn't like any so he stuck with Hulkling.

@Egan

A new runaways series won't be happening for some time because Nico and Chase are both going to be in Avengers Arena. Honestly I would love to see some of the characters moved to other areas then. Put Karoline and Victor in the Avengers Academy, have Molly go to the Jean Grey School.

@ckal

Kate Bishop, the girl with the bow in purple is Hawkeye. She took over the codename when Hawkeye was... "dead" And when Clint came back they never disputed the name, just accepted it and Clint thought it was kind of awesome to have two Hawkeye's out there. They are currently partnered in the Hawkeye series.

@all

The Young Avengers came about years ago before the Civil War after the Avengers disbanded. Two distinct teams popped up to fill the void, The New Avengers and The Young Avengers. These teams carrying those names have been around for years, you have been informed, your thoughts that these titles were branded to ride on the movie's coattails is misinformed.

An awful lot of Avengers books out there right now. You can tell Disney/Marvel is trying hard to capitalize off the movie's success.

We can get all of this but unless I'm mistaken I can't find a new Guardians of the Galaxy comic to save my life. Reading Nova: Knowhere graphic novel. I'd take a little more of that type of Nova story as well. But no, we keep getting more watered down BS like this.

Patriot was on Mutant growth hormone. He's probably sucking something for his habit. Or dead.
Can we just call her Miss America?.. It'll be like dropping the "L" in Samuel Jackson. No one will notice. Well almost.

Funny. A year ago MARVEL fans would talk smack about DC New 52...now look at MARVEL.

And now Young Avengers....Now I do believe I have no seen this title on the shelf's at the comic store. So just so many times MARVEL fans cry out here how DC copies them in every way, what comes around goes around. Just saying.
