COMICS: Marvel Unveils The Shocking Cover To Fear Itself #7!

So far, the covers for the series by Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen have accurately portrayed what goes on inside the comic itself. If the same is true for issue #7, it looks like Cap's iconic shield will be shattered...

The penultimate chapter of the apocalypse is here! Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man scramble to make Earth's last stand against the relentless Serpent and his army of world-shattering avatars--all while amongst unbelievable chaos and destruction, Spider-Man makes the choice of a lifetime! Dark Asgard has risen and all of Earth's forces converge on the World Tree as the globe shudders in the shadow of FEAR ITSELF!

You may recall seeing a different version of the following image a few months ago, before Fear Itself began. Well, looks like the penultimate issue WILL indeed see the shattering of Captain America's iconic shield! Surely not? Well, as I said above, the first few all accurately portrayed event on the cover which happened in the comic, so it seems likely! On a slightly unrelated note, it's also interesting to ponder what sort of beg decision Spider-Man might be forced to make. Seeing as he's been given his own three issue tie-in, I assumed he was being sidelined, but doesn't seem that way now! Be sure to share your thoughts on all this in the usual place!

Must have dropped Brett Ratner's ego on it.

Also, how many times has his shield been broken? Thanos did it. Thor did it. Countless What if? issues show it being broken. It's kind of like main characters dying. We know there's someone just off-panel, holding a bucket of cosmic super-glue, waiting to fix it.

@ intruder

"He journeys throught the after life, confronts Mephisto in Hell. Barters his eternal soul for his old life back (pre-BND) in a contest of Battleship or Twister."

hahaaahahahahahha. I really hope thats what happens, lol. Bill and Ted style

His shield is shattered, again. How original.

Loki,

agreed. How many times do they have to fake a broken shield or Thor's hammer?! I love Marvel (obviously) but c'mon!

Let me guess: Jean Grey/Phoenix dies or is reborn or dies...

It really takes away from the whole "indestructible" concept, doesn't it? Maybe in Marvel's dictionary there's an addendum after "indestructible" that states: "indestructibility nullified in the event of redundant plot point". It's become as redundant as DC destroying or rebooting their multiverse every few years.

The only thing this cover is missing is a thought dialog ballon above Steve's head that says "Really?"

Indestructible is only good tell another element is created or something stronger that can break it.

Like that cover art with Cap. Very lifelike.

Spider-Man's big choice? He's picking Miller Lite over Bud Light.

Somebody replaced the real shield with this fake collector's shield. How dare they!? Cap has work to do to save our butts from the end of life as we know it. If you took it, please return it ASAP!

Do you think the shield from the 70's Capt America show ever broke? Plexi-glass is pretty strong stuff. I guess he'll have to switch to using the light shield he gave his kid in the Next Avengers animated movie until they find the real shield.

How many times is Cap's "Indestructable" shield going to be destroyed to sell books? This is at least the 3rd time by my count.

@Intruder- oh god I hope so! I'm so fed up of One More/Brand New Day. Yeah its given us some great new villians, but why they couldn't have done them when he and MJ were married I will never know...

@ EvilOlivE- I know, so why the heck is he so bummed out in this pic? As Capt America is supposed to be a sign of Americans we can read two things into this:

A. Americans are to materialistic and whine when our things get broke during play time and

B. Cap stands behind this country just as he stands behind his shield so it is a metaphor that we are broken as a country.

It was also destroyed by Dr.Doom using the Beyonders Powers in "Secret Wars".

There they go again, symbolising how broken America is instead of showing what Cap would follow with. This soldier would pick himself up and use that jagged shield to muster his men. He would then find a Trash Can lid and blind his foe.
But instead, the Marvel writers have this WW2 vet, sitting with his broken gear ... pouting? I don't think so.

@ LordLoki.

NOTHING save for the Living Tribunal and the One Above All is indestructible once you go up to Sky-Father power level. A being on the level of Zeus or Odin can Shatter Caps shield with one hand, while beating the hell out of an enraged Hulk with the other.
