COMICS: Stephen Wacker Addresses The Controversial Events Of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #9

Superior Spider-Man senior editor shares his thoughts on the recent shake-up in the title which many have argued is as shocking and controversial as the events of Amazing Spider-Man #700. Read on for details! [MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD]

In an interview with Newsarama, Stephen Wacker has shared his thoughts on the shocking events of Superior Spider-Man #9. As we told you yesterday, the issue saw Otto Octavius emerge victorious in his battle for control with Peter Parker and the latter was then erased (leaving Doctor Octopus as the one and only "Superior" Spider-Man). "We’ve had to give a certain amount of screen-time to Pete every issue, but that will no longer be the case," he confirmed. "Basically keeping Pete’s 'spirit' has helped the medicine go down over the past few months of big changes, but now that Dan, Ryan, Humberto [Ramos] and [Giuseppe Camuncoli] have everyone hooked it’s time to bring the focus solely onto our main character: the all-new Superior Spider-Man." Considering the fact that Otto also deleted Peter's memories from the golden Octobot, he now really is gone and this appears to be the status quo moving forward. As for how he feels about the revelation that Peter tried to stop Otto from operating on a little girl to avoid being detected, he said, "I guess that will be up to each reader to interpret, but from my vantage point Peter Parker was interesting for 50 years because of the mistakes he made. He’s not stainless, he’s not perfect. There are plenty of examples over 700+ issues where his behavior was less than exemplary. I hope readers are troubled by Pete’s actions. I know I was."

This whole thing is insane but I would be lying if I said I wasnt looking forward to seeing what happens with otto going forward as the superior spiderman. Eventually though, Peter will come back and I am looking forward to that as well.

The problem with this is that in the hands of a good and smart writer, Peter would never do this. No matter what would happen to him, he would never put somebody else's life in danger for personal gain. This comic can go straight to hell.

Heh. This is all Marvels plan I think. If they ruin Spider-man who's going to see the movie when it comes out? Not as many people right? Eventually Sony is going to give up and he'll be back with Marvel.

Still it's not right to ruin this character, but that's probably why they are doing it.

And how does this ruin the character for those who can't figure it out... Seriously they killed the MAIN CHARACTER! AND MADE HIS VILLAIN BE HIM! That's like Joker learning to not kill people right and left and become Batman.

Thus you have a ruined VILLAIN and a ruined HERO.

Until Peter comes back, I'm not reading this series anymore. Period. And this is because Peter Parker is one of my favorite heroes. I have no interest in Ock-Parker.

Celebrate 50 Years of Spider-man by taking a giant dump on the character. Ultimate Spider-Man's transition should be the official end to Parker...

Spider-man and Doc Ock stitch bodies is the most retarded idea in the character's history. Wacker's a moron and should be ashamed of himself...

If you really don't like the series, stop buying it! For that matter write Marvel and let them know you will stop buying any comics from them.

In the end, the bottom line is money. If Marvel takes a hit on sales, they will reconsider.

And it will be a brand new day... heh..!

What a shitload of fuuck, this guy is not only shitting on the character but is also wanking on him and giving him the 'happy ending' treatment. This shit is retarded and even they know t, they're just pissing off the fans.

Amazing series ... i laugh at the idiots that serious think Peter won't be back at some point. They are most likely trying to figure out a way to keep Superior Spider Man around as well, or give Otto another alias as a hero. It's laughable that people are upset seeing as how Jackal, the man that knows all things Parker still exist. When Jackal wants Parker back, he will be back until then it's going to be fun. Can't wait until Kaine catches up with Ock!

The only reason I cared because I wanted to see how Pete would make it back. I really don't care at all anymore. Otto is an ass, I don't even care to see him redeemed. Guy murdered my favorite superhero and is running around dressed in his skin pretending to be a hero. I was willing to give things a try as long as Pete was still there and still coming back, but I'm out. I bet next issue or soon they will reveal that Peter is still coming back. What an awful end for a true hero. Screw Slott.

I've been keeping up with the series but I will never pay for an issue of Superior Spider-Man of you catch my drift. Spidey *cough cough* Peter Parker is my second favorite Marvel Character. They ruined him. Between that, this lame Marvel NOW and the Over saturation of X-Men and Avengers and the dumb event books I have given uP on current Marvel Comics. I used to praise Marvel and shit on DC but honestly DC Has the best creators in mainstream comics now. I love the marvel movies to death but DC comics and Animation is way better and deserve more of my money. [frick] marvel. I have a good reason for being a DC fanboy. I'm not blind, I'm just intelligent. I might pick up a marvel book in 10 years or something.

I went on google searching for that picture and then I stumbled across this:

Following an “early happy birthday” from Superior Spider-Man writer Dan Slott on Twitter, Spider-Man creator Stan Lee responded, “@DanSlott what a gift, some guys give a nice cigar, a watch, but no not you, I get a dead #PeterParker Thanks for the bday wishes my friend!”

Responded Dan Slott, “HA! Printing that out now. THAT’S goin’ up on the fridge! I am NEVER taking that down!!!!”

And Lee’s response: “At least you’ll have a good piece of writing in your house. Ha. Keep up the amazingly spectacular work you always do!”

Pure genius!!

Steve a costume change and completely killing off a character and replacing him with a psychopathic asshole are two different things. In movies things are expected to change like that. But good job trying to twist my words around me old friendo.

***Breaking news***

Next issue Ock is gonna bring Peter Parker back to life, so he can rape him, decapitate him and then eat his guts. Only that way can he prove to be "the Superior Spider-Man".

Seriously, how can anyone like this? How do you support a guy (and say that he`s better than Peter) who:

* tried to destroy the planet
* murdered Spider-Man (and several other characters)
* is incredibly pretentious and ego-driven on every step of the way?

To me this whole storyline is just Dan Slott trying to either piss off the fans (seriously, anyone who wants Peter back please stop buying that crap - only when it becomes when the sales fall will they replace Slott as the writer) or live his strange fantasy to "be" Spider-Man through Octavious (check the photos, doesn`t Slott look a lot like Doc Ock?). Also, now they`re trying to vilify Peter, so that Ock is "the good guy". Thanks for ruining one of my favourite heroes, jerks.

@kevberg - Don't really see how this is "liberal craziness" it's just sh!tty story-telling. Not politically geared one way or another as far I know so...

As a whole though this is just awful. It's like they're activley trying to piss off Spidey fans now, they seem proud of it. The writers themselves aren't that bad it's just the overall plot of this run is terrible. This is like the Riddler taking over Batman's body or something, just a storyline that makes you go "ugh".

Peter will he back. The same as they have done with Superman, Cap, and Batman. Some characters are iconic and you cannot take away a part of them that is always identified as being that character. Marvel will stick with this for a while, but eventually Pete will return.

If a group of comic fans sat around & said, "What is the stupidest possible idea anyone could ever come up with for Spider-Man?" and someone suggested this storyline- no one would believe it for one second. It is so terrible that it isn't even a bad parody of bad writing.

And yet, here it is. To coin a phrase... "amazing."

@OtakuPapi- That's not the point. The point is this comic is badly written. The dialogue is unnatural. Everybody is written out of character to make the story work. The morals are bullcrap and the art is sloppy. This whole ordeal actually rivals Peter's tryst with Mephisto to end his marriage. It's that mischaracterized and contrived.
