COMICS: Wolverine's Not Coming Back Before 2016, Says Writer Charles Soule

Fans have been wondering if Marvel's upcoming Death of Wolverine miniseries will result in a resurrection of Logan soon afterwards, but writer Charles Soule says that plans suggest he's not coming back anytime soon. Hit the jump for more.

Marvel's been drawing out the death of the world's most well-known mutant, Wolverine, for months now, but this month the four-issue miniseries Death of Wolverine sees Logan's time on Earth come to an end. With comic book deaths seemingly disposable now, many have speculated that the Canuck will return to the land of the living within a short amount of time. Well, the Death of Wolverine writer Charles Soule says that the intention is to keep him dead for a while, as revealed on the Marvel panel at Fan Expo 2014. "The idea is not to bring him back," he explained. "This isn't one of those stories where he's back in two weeks. The point is to tell an awesome ending story for Wolverine. I'm not gonna say he will never be brought back. I will say for sure that I'm very involved in all the Wolverine related discussions at Marvel right now and the thing we have not talked about at all is how to bring him back and I'm involved in discussions for stuff out into 2016 at this point." So the plan is to keep Logan dead for the next two years, at least, according to the Superman/Wonder Woman and Inhuman writer, but a five-issue follow-up titled Weapon X Project is set to arrive this Fall. Soule elaborates by saying it explores the Marvel Universe without Wolverine, and features "a guy who is kind of intertwined with a huge bad guy from Wolverine's history. I can't talk about any details, but when we revisit this next year and you know what all these things are I hope you'll be as excited about it as I am," before adding, "There are big plans to do everything except bring him back." Marvel's Death of Wolverine #1, by Charles Soule and Steve McNiven, hits shelves this Wednesday.

So I mean, what's the point of even killing him off?? lol Maybe it's to show that "hey here's a guy who can actually die and etc." I'll check it out when I get the chance. Really hope it's handled well.

So.... He's coming back?

He's obviously coming back. Every character comes back.
But at least he'll be gone a few years.
The moment a new writer comes in and want to bring back Wolverine he will do it.
The bad part is that these days writers don't even care if the resurrection is stupid, they just do it

He will be back.....

AFTER the next Xmen movie...

This is a middle finger from Disney. Wolverine will return but he will not fuel the hype train for the next Fox feature. Marvel is in movie business now... Comics are support material... And why support movies you do not make money on.

Lucky they did soil it worse...make cyclops a math addicted child molester or something hilarious like that

So what's the point

One thing that sucks about the comic book world.
Maybe he'll come back by the time the new Wolverine movie comes out in 2017

HAHAHAHA

They already said when he will return, and he didn't die yet.

This is Marvel.

@ArkhamCrusader
Uh, no, Soule said that he is working on Wolverine plans through to 2016 and none of it includes him returning. He doesn't say when he's coming back.

@ m0th3r
Lol Nah I don't think it has anything to do with the movies, if so then why not kill xmen as a whole. Ppl don't run out to get a Wolverine book when Xmen Apocalypse comes out, heck it's not even official that Wolverine is even in the movie yet.

With "that" message, he already confirmed that he will return after 2016..

They could keep the secret at least one year...

Lol, the before 2016 thing could be true. But if anyone really believes his return is not planned, you're fooling yourself.

At least they admit it... It'll be fun to ssee Sabretooth, after Axis Inversion, probably taking up the Wolverine mantle.

did anyone really think marvel was gonna kill off one of their most popular characters forever? its just like falcon being captain america or a female thor, its only going to be temporary.

If he's not coming back in 2016, then he'll most likely be coming back in 2017, when the third Wolverine movie hits theaters. It seems like FOX won't be profiting from Marvel, but Marvel will be profiting from FOX if that's the case.

Let's see how long he lasts dead.

Thor stayed dead from 2004 to 2007, I don't think they will keep Logan out longer than that, we will see.

Okay...

They didn't bring Spidey back... until the movie came out, which was a year later.

So what if they don't bring him back for 2 years? Did they forget there's a third year?

Marvel will bring him back -even with, or without the old writer- exactly during or after the new X-Men film, which is, ironically, 2016...

Everybody knows Wolverine will return eventually, but the point of this article was to prove to people Marvel aren't going to pull a cheap punch in a few months. This thing may last a little while.

Wait. Hold up. A comic character who died is coming back to life? WOW! I DIDN'T SEE THIS COMING

Spidey was gone for a year and a half. He's probably gonna be gone for 2-3 years. But anyways I think what matters more is how they die and if the story is good not whether they're going to kill a character off or not since they always do it.

Wolverine will return from the dead just in time before X-men Apocalypse.

Bullshit. Why would Death keep him for so long? He brings her too many souls to keep him out the game for that long.

Even though this has been set up for a few years, it shouldn't last this long.

But I wonder, when he does come back, if the "no reviving him" policy will still be in effect?
Enki
Enki - 9/1/2014, 6:42 AM
@m0th3r, agreed.

I have always said that this whole Death of Wolverine is Marvel's way of saying "Phuck You" to Fox and their Wolverine-centric X-Men franchise. Marvel wants to hurt them by getting rid of their lead character.
