The comic book industry is in mourning today as it's been revealed that Len Wein has passed away at the age of 69. The legendary comic book writer and editor is perhaps best known for co-creating Wolverine and Swamp-Thing, with the former obviously one of Marvel's most popular characters. However, his work extended well beyond that and has been felt in a variety of mediums as a result.

For example, Constantin Kovar, who appeared on Arrow last season, was a character he dreamed up back when he was writing Teen Titans - his first professional comics work - alongside Marv Wolfman.

Wein served as Marvel's Editor-in-Chief for a time and had
runs on titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Fantastic Four. He and artist Dave Cockrum essentially rebooted the X-Men in 1975 when they came up with a brand new roster of heroes like Nightcrawler and Colossus (not to mention Wolverine who went from being an enemy of The Hulk to a member of the X-Men).

After making the move to DC Comics, he provided fun takes on characters like Batman, Green Lantern, and even played a role in introducing the modern iteration of the Suicide Squad. He'd later serve as E-i-C for Disney Comics and moved to television to work on a variety of comic book characters. Later, he did a huge amount of work for IDW and most recently returned to DC to pen Swamp-Thing.

His legacy is definitely going to be remembered and we obviously wish his family and friends all the best at this time. Feel free to let us know your favourite Len Wein stories in the comments section.

What the [frick] wasn't this Story already on CBM? If that first story was deleted I think that's shit, because people had left their respects.

I'm not sure I read many, but I do remember wolfing Batman vs The Incredible Hulk. Better times when Marvel and DC could actually find common ground to make fun comics together. I miss Amalgam.

A man whose creation has sparked many a discussion on this website and countless others... Although his creation may not have been fully realized on screen, Im glad he got to see a proper send off for Wolverine before he passed. May he RIP.

How sad, one of the great comic book writers and editors who helped define both Marvel and DC in the70's onwards. Clearly his run on Swamp Thing with Bernie Wrightson and of course Giant-Size X-Men #1 which, well changed everything. My favourite of his; Batman: "Once Upon a Time…” by Len Wein & Walter Simonson, inspired by a Snoopy story, absolutely fantastic. Farewell and thank you Len, you'll be missed.

I hope people realize how much of a legend he was.
When you think back to classic X-Men, it's his art that you should see.

Funny how Wein was less well known than similar creators who've made iconic characters... Bill Finger, Simon and Shuster, Stan Lee... I guess because wolverine was remembered mostly for the Byrne/Claremont take on the character. RIP and thank you Mr. Wein. And thanks Josh for the nice write up

He created my favorite x-men character. I know x-men has changed over the years and there's eras that are better than others and all that but the re-launch in 1975 was in many ways what led to what I would consider the greatest and most fun comics ever and in a large part that was thanks to Wolverine and his popularity.

and everything I just said was just about wolverine. Think about the rest of his legacy and you've got yourself a comics legend.

RIP
