BOX OFFICE: WRECK-IT RALPH Has Disney Animation's Highest Debut Of All-Time With $49.1M

Wreck-It Ralph, which stars John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch, had no trouble nabbing the #1 spot at the North American box office this weekend. With a $13,000 average per screen, this was a great start for the film which should now have a very good run right through Thanksgiving. An 'A' CinemaScore will also be a big help for word of mouth and it seems extremely likely that this will now be the beginning of a whole new franchise. The fact that it pays homage to the past few decades of video games history also means that it appealed to a far wider audience than most animated flicks. Internationally, the film opened in only six territories (it won't be released in the UK and many other countries until next February) and made $12 million, taking its current total cume to $61.1 million.

Ralph is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, the "good guy" star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he's tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he's got what it takes to be a hero. On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun from the first-person action game Hero's Duty. But it's the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it's too late?

STARRING:

John C. Reilly as Wreck-It Ralph
Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz
Jack McBrayer as Fix-It Felix, Jr.
Jane Lynch as Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun
Alan Tudyk as King Candy
Dennis Haysbert as General Hologram

RELEASE DATE: November 2nd, 2012.

I saw this, really liked it

But I felt it spent too much time in sugar rush and got slow in the middle. At times you get bored with the plot and crave for another cameo.

The cameos and references they do have are very cool, but I wanted more. Who wouldn't?

Overall, great Disney film. Probably my modern favorite

Very pleased for Disney, this year started with them ending one of their most successful tv shows (Wizards of Waverly Place), John Carter being a massive flop, and Lone Ranger being postponed. Now they're ending the fiscal year with well over a billion in the bank thanks to Avengers, a new successful franchise, and Star Wars. Go Mouse House. :)

I like disney. If they succeed with Star Wars they will be rolling in billions from Marvel and Star Wars. They just gotta slow down before they get into competition with themselves. Gotta make sure they don't release star wars and marvel movies in competition with each other.

Marvel for summer, Star Wars for Xmas!

It only beat out Tangled (2010) by $1 million bucks but its a bit of a tenuous claim when every PIXAR film is also funded and distributed by Disney, many of which have had bigger openings and may of which had their big openings after being bought up completely by Disney in 2006.

Sequels are comming for sure. I'm sure other game franchises will want to showcase some of their characters in the sequels. I'll probably take my kids to see it in a week or two.
