After Emma Watson passed, Disney and director Kenneth Branagh searched high and low for a suitable young actress to play the lead in their live action Cinderella, and it looks like they've found her.

Walt Disney have just sent out a very brief press release announcing that Downton Abbey's Lily James will play Cinderella in their live action adaptation of the classic fairytale.

Actress Lily James (Downton Abbey) has been cast as Cinderella in Disney’s upcoming live-action interpretation of the beloved classic tale. The film is being directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh and stars Cate Blanchett as the iconic evil stepmother.

Additional announcements regarding Cinderella are expected in the coming weeks.

After Harry Potter actress Emma Watson passed, word was that either Bella Heathcoate, Lily James or Margot Robbie would secure the role, and it seems James (also seen in Wrath Of The Titans) was the one that the glass slipper fit best. Cate Blanchett is still on board as the Evil Queen, and last we heard Game Of Thrones actor Richard Madden (Robb Stark) is one of the names on the list to play the Prince.

She is a terrible actress in Downton. Hope shes took some lessons. This would have been epic with Emma Watson.

No! :(
I wanted Bella Heathcote!

Lily James hasn't really impressed me from what few things I've seen her in.

Bella Heathcote should have definitely been cast. She's the only one I can see in the role! She's perfect!

A Branagh movie? And a non-blonde Cinderella?

This movie will fail.
