Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' mid-credits scene felt a little tacked on, but it was undeniably intriguing. In that, Stephen Strange was approached by a mysterious female sorcerer clad in purple played by Charlize Theron. Comic book fans recognised her as Clea, of course, and she beckoned Strange to follow her into the Dark Dimension.
With that, the stage has been set for Doctor Strange 3 and we now have a closer look at Clea courtesy of some concept art showing the final approved designs for the enigmatic character.
The finished product perhaps didn't look quite as good in live-action as it does in this artwork by John Staub, but that's Theron's likeness, so she was clearly being eyed for this role for a while. Staub says, "I had an absolute blast working on this film led by the awesome [Ian Joyner] and was thrilled to be able to work on this character."
Strange and Clea heading off on an adventure in the Dark Dimension opens the door to a lot of storytelling possibilities, and we can't help but wonder whether Dormammu will make his return. Clea is his niece in the comic books, something you have to believe might change how the former Sorcerer Supreme feels about his newfound friend.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.
