When Marvel Studios unveiled the first batch of merchandise for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we learned that the movie will include a Stephen Strange Variant known as "Defender Strange." Aside from a new look, very little has been revealed about the character, but it's now been confirmed that this Defender won't be alone when we meet him next month.
Monogram International is set to release a new line of keychain figures, and, as you can see, "Defender Wong" will also appear in the Doctor Strange sequel. Aside from his costume, he looks a lot like the MCU's Wong, though we're intrigued to learn more about how he factors into this story.
One popular theory is that this Strange Variant is the Sorcerer Supreme on America Chavez's world, with his demise (likely at the tentacles of Gargantos) the event that prompts her to head to the MCU.
Also of note is the "Christine Palmer" Variant, potentially debunking theories that Rachel McAdams is also playing Clea. That could be a way of maintaining the surprise, of course, something we're sure will be a priority for Marvel Studios as we get closer to the sequel's release.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.
