DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Merchandise Reveals A Previously Unseen Variant

Merchandise for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has already introduced us to a couple of Stephen Strange Variants, but a different take on another familiar character can be found right here...

When Marvel Studios unveiled the first batch of merchandise for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we learned that the movie will include a Stephen Strange Variant known as "Defender Strange." Aside from a new look, very little has been revealed about the character, but it's now been confirmed that this Defender won't be alone when we meet him next month.

Monogram International is set to release a new line of keychain figures, and, as you can see, "Defender Wong" will also appear in the Doctor Strange sequel. Aside from his costume, he looks a lot like the MCU's Wong, though we're intrigued to learn more about how he factors into this story.

One popular theory is that this Strange Variant is the Sorcerer Supreme on America Chavez's world, with his demise (likely at the tentacles of Gargantos) the event that prompts her to head to the MCU.

Also of note is the "Christine Palmer" Variant, potentially debunking theories that Rachel McAdams is also playing Clea. That could be a way of maintaining the surprise, of course, something we're sure will be a priority for Marvel Studios as we get closer to the sequel's release.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.

Wait, who's Supreme Strange? Is that Bruce Campbell?

@ElricReturns - I think that is the evil Strange from the end of the first trailer. And unlike many, I don't think it's the same one as from What If

@bkmeijer1 - No that's (sinister) Strange. A different variant. Supreme Strange is the one you see the statue of, probably from the Illuminati universe.

@Typhoon20 - so many Strange's! That's means we're getting four Strange's in this movie? Wonder if there's any time left for MCU Strange with a two hour runtime

@DrReedRichards - it is but apparently someone else owns the name so they couldn't use it.

@theprophet -

Yeah, I read something like that, about the name not being in the public domain. I get the technicalities behind it, but still kinda rubs me the wrong way, ya know?

I don't think the Defender variants of Strange and Wong are from Chavez' universe, but rather the Supreme Strange one given that Defender Strange ends up being a zombie

This is how the movie opens:

Dr. Strange & Wong are being chased by an unseen force in the unmistakeable Sam Raimi camera style where the camera is the monster.
He invented that style which has been copied to death in quite a few horror movies.

SPOILER FOLLOWS

They are both killed violently.

They are the Defender variants.

The real 616 Dr. Strange wakes up from a dream in which he saw their deaths.

I'm most excited for Supreme Strange, more than any cameo ever.
His look is pretty cool but above all they hinted at him in the trailer but hiding a lot and I feel like he's going to be pretty badass and I'm all for it. Usually I don't care much for characters being too OP but Strange is the only one where I'm all for it. What If made him really OP and that were the best moments by a mile and I just want to see that type of power display translate to live action. I don't think we've ever seen anything like that in live action ever, done well. Marvel could be the first. Infinity War gave us a glimpse and I just need more of that, a lot more.

Supreme strange was seen as a statue - he obviously dies right off the bat.
