Hey CBMer's hope you're enjoying the summer. Today I'm back for my fourth installment of CBM Top 5, bringing you a similar, but different topic then my last editorial "CBM Top 5: Greatest Comic Book Movie Villains." Now I'm going to be bringing you my list of the Toughest Comic Book Movie Villains. Everyone loves a tough villain, and although we don't always get one, when we do, we LOVE it. So without further or do, here's my list of the top 5 toughest superhero villains!

Toughest Comic Book Movie Villains:
5) Mickey Rourke as Whiplash/Ivan Vanko: Iron Man 2 (2010)

Always the most controversial choice at number 5, it's pretty much set in stone that Whiplash was one badass man on a mission to do one thing, kill Tony Stark. Vanko, who has a pure hatred for Stark, stops at nothing countless times throughout the film to destroy Iron Man. He ruthlessly attacks Stark, not caring whose there, nor who stands in his way. Some people may love Iron Man 2, others may hate it, and some may see it as so-so. Whiplash goes at it with Stark several times, each time going full force. In the end, he not only took on Iron Man, but War Machine too. He then risks his own life in order to end in Iron Man's also. Although he fails to kill Iron Man, and winds up practically killing himself, Whiplash ended as a man. He takes on one of the most powerful men in the world, and continues to just try and kill him, not caring about anything else but revenge. Whiplash was a man on a mission, and through an insane fight at a race track, and several attempts to kill Tony Stark, Ivan Vanko lands his way at number 5 as the toughest villains of all time.

4) Alfred Molina as Dr. Octopus/Dr. Otto Octavius: Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Alfred Molina's job as Doc Ock was captivating and legendary. My biggest mistake on my "Greatest Comic Book Movie Villains" was not placing him on my list. Although he did not wind up being a villain at the end, during Dr. Octavius's reign as Doc Ock he was unbeatable. He truly gave Spider-Man a run for his money. In fact, if he never came to his senses, there's a good choice he could've took out "Spidey" once and for all. When you think of Doc Ock from this movie it's almost hard not to think of the Train fight, which arguably is one of the best fight scenes in a comic book movie, ever! When Doctor Octopus was in the zone, he went H.A.M. (Hard as a Motherf**ker). After largely contributing to one of the best superhero movies ever, Alfred Molina's role as the infamous Doc Ock lands him at number 4 on the toughest bad guys in a superhero movie.

3) Tim Roth as Abomination/Emil Blonsky: The Incredible Hulk (2008)

In my personal opinion, The Incredible Hulk of 2008 is one of the most underrated comic book movies ever. A great cast, a great effects team, and a great story line, The Incredible Hulk was a fun movie. Emil Blonsky is one kick ass man when he stops at nothing to take down the Hulk. An extremely large, abnormally strong green giant, The Hulk, was no problem for Blonsky. He didn't care about how big he was, all he wanted to do was take it down. For gods sake the man inserted a potentially harmful serum into his own body, all for one reason; to take down the Hulk. Throughout the film he consistently shows his passion to conquer the Hulk, and once he turns himself into a bigger, stronger version of a Hulk, he aggressively takes on the Green giant. Although he doesn't win, you have to give Blonsky credit for going all out in order to win. Abomination shows ambition, desire, and determination; three characteristics that separate him, and other villains who simply try to sneak there way to victory. Abomination is one tough son of a b*tch, quietly making his way to number 3.

2) Heath Ledger as Joker: The Dark Knight (2008)

My #1 greatest villain of all time not only shows the acting skill it requires to make an outstanding comic book movie, but shows the traits that are required to make a tough, hard to the bone villain. Heath Ledgers oscar for "best actor in a supporting role" is just proof of his excellence. Even more so, the Joker constantly puts everything on line throughout the movie. Whether he took on several mobs, or the gotham police, or even the one and only Batman, the Joker put up a fight. Never holding anything back, the Joker uses his brains to make him one tough villain. Though there are many great examples of Joker's incredible toughness, the best one is the infamous interrogation scene. In this scene Batman pummels the Joker, but still, after countless beating and screaming, the Joker never gives up his conniving laugh, and the answer for Batman's troubles. The Joker of the Dark Knight is no doubt in my mind the best super villain ever, but this list isn't for the best, it's for the toughest. And although the Joker is so close to that number 1, he just gets beat out by one villain....

1) Michael Fassbender as Magneto/Erik Lehnsherr: X-Men: First Class (2011)

Yes, you are reading this right! A new member to the on going list of comic book movie villains, Fassbender's younger appearance as the impeccable Magneto just beats out Ledger's Joker for the toughest comic book movie villain of all time. Although Magneto isn't necessarily a villain throughout the whole film, in the end, he's a bad guy. Throughout the movie you see Magneto struggle to seek revenge. Whether Magneto was set back in his time at the Nazi concentration camp, or he was fighting 3 men all at once in a foreign country, or even if he's fighting two of the elite countries, Magneto never hesitated to prove his point. On a mission to seek revenge, Magneto successfully won, ultimately ending the trend of villains losing. Fassbender played an amazing Magneto, and even when Ian McKellen played the older Magneto, he still never truly "lost." Magneto has always been unbeatable, and now with this excellent movie, Magneto's success is reinstated. A prime example of Magneto's superiority as the toughest villain is at the end of X-Men first class, where after seeking the revenge he's always hoped of seeking his whole life, he takes on nukes and missiles coming from the two strongest countries in the world, the United States and Russia. As the missiles are coming at him, Magneto doesn't even move; he uses his power and controls the hundreds of missiles that would've easily destroyed him. While having control over his life, he takes the hundreds of missiles and puts them in the water, ultimately saving hundreds of people. You have to be one tough man to take on nukes and missiles, while not even showing one sign of fear. Magneto of X-Men: First Class truly deserves the tittle of the "Toughest Comic Book Movie Villain of All Time." And as they continue to make more X-Men movies, we can only hope that Marvel brings back the man that took on the Cuban Missile Crisis single handily.

I hope you all enjoyed this latest edition of CBM Top 5's, and be sure to comment, ask questions, and give your own personal opinions. Also check out my other editions of CBM Top 5's, I think anyone will enjoy them, and be able to make there own lists too. If you like this list, please give it the thumbs up (y), it would be very much appreciated. Thanks, and hope you enjoyed!

P.S.
A prediction of mine is that The Dark Knight Rises (2012) villain of Bane will easily make top 3 in this list, being that Tom Hardy is an excellent choice, Christopher Nolan has consistently came through, and Bane is one badass man.

so the joker is tougher than the abomination.......right.

because ledger recieved an oscar for dying & not for his acting ability, also don't you think that in all the oscar history that sometimes the wrong person recieved the oscar.

its your list, but i believe in what i think is the real reason heath got the oscar.

don't get me wrong it was sad he died at a young age,but thats why he got the oscar.

@ Marvel

Heath was very good in TDK, but i completely agree with you. I'm not trying to take anything away from him because he really did do a great job. But you're right.

Ledgers performance in TDK was masterful. When I cannot see the actor at all in a charactor no matter how hard I try its an incredable performance. Just because he died pre-release date doesnt mean he didnt deserve an oscar for his version of the Joker. He deserve his spot on the list. The only reason you can say he doesnt is because he doesnt have any powers. In that case the joker would have never been a good comic villian. I counted and he killed like 40+ people in TDK. How many did Abomintaion kill? Maybe like 7.

Sandman is definitly tougher then four of these people (everyone but maybey Abomination). If your going to do a toughest list then actually do a toughest list.

@Hush2010: Since when does number of kills represent toughest? A terrorist kills more people in his life time than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Does that mean a terrorist will always be tougher than AS.

@ golden123
I dont see Arnold as tough just strong. If your talking physical toughness I agree Sandman should be on the list with like Juggernaut, Abomination, and other thick skinned villians. His explanation of toughness led me to believe that he was talking mental, moral, and physical toughness as well. Jokers insanity and willingness to kill made him a very tough villian for batman to defeat.

@golden123
I have to agree with you on Sandman; though Spider-Man 3 wasn't mine (or anybody else's) favorite Spider-Man movie, the Sandman is definately the toughest villain and probably should of been number 1.

I mean, how can you take on a guy made of sand who can change his body at any time to defeat his opponents? Not even Magneto can take on that guy with his powers (since in the movie it is just controlling metal only, not all the other good shit from the comics).

@Hush2010: Well then wouldn't the villain be subjective to the hero when it comes down to tough. Abomination wasn't that hard for Hulk to take down in the movie (one fight scene in length), yet that would make General Ross the toughest villain due to hulk not even being able to take him down. Remember, Abomination had free reign on the Hulk, but Ross was always behind the scenes and had the army backing him up. I'm sure fans would be mad to see Ross as more tough than Abomination.

@BigK1337: It shouldn't matter about whether the villain was liked or not. This list is supposed to be about "toughest" not "favorite". Juggarnaut should be at least considered for this list because he is one of the tougher villains in the movies. It doesn't matter how bad X3 was.enes and had the government backing him up.

There has been a lot tougher villains then these five. I hate to say but Jean Grey in X3 was pretty damn powerful. As many have said it's your list but there have been a lot more tougher villain that could probably beat these five.
