Do we need a JLA movie?

Do we need a JLA movie?

After all of the annoyance of hearing about this JLA movie, we ask ourselves do we really need it?

I'm going to list a few reasons for why we may not need this movie

1. What if it is bad?

The JLA is arguably the greatest superhero team of all-time, from its cast of characters to its great stories. This movie will have to do justice to the characters. What if it doesn't? How would we react if one of our favourite properties was absolutely ruined? (ala Green Lantern). You heard the outcry from Green Lantern, the Transformers movies and the upcoming Alien Turtles. The JLA arguably has a higher fanbase than these properties I just listed as it has to do justice to at least 5 characters. How would we react if at least 5 properties were ruined at once, let alone 1?

2. The Animated Series

No-one can deny that JLA TAS is one of the greatest animated series based on source material. Somehow, JLA predates the Avengers movie. JLA created a Batman and Superman animated series, established Green Lantern, Flash and Aquaman's universes and crossed over often. Then, they created Justice League TAS which surpassed our expectations. These animated shows created a whole other DC continuity, why do we need this in live action? Are we possesed by the novelty of seeing our favourite characters played by real people. We have our definitive DC universe in another medium, why do we need another?

3. Is a singular movie a good idea?

From what we've heard, DC wants to start the DC Cinematic Universe with a Justice League movie with nothing leading up to it (except maybe MoS but we have facts to debunk that) is this a good idea. Normally, the JLA comic is supposed to be the characters getting together and punching stuff and the character development is meant to be in the characters solo books. We've seen releasing JLA first resulting in a major disappointment. Geoff John's Justice League was a major disappointment to a lot of fans because it was released first, its first story arc was finished before all of the New 52 was out. People complained about its lack of character development.

Conclusion:

I think that we'll have to see if it is a good idea, I still remain optimistic, but worried. If the movie stays in production hell, we'll know. If it is made and bad, we'll know. If the movie is made and good, we'll know.

At this stage i will just be happy to see dc invest in some of its wider characters. Shit im not even talking blue beetle or wonder man. I mean some of the A-listers like flash, wonder woman or martian manhunter. If DC could give us a couple of movies with superman, wonder woman and flash individually it would at least help cool my need to see a Justice league movie .

I would very much enjoy a JLA movie. I worry that there will be a lot of errors that will be made with such a movie. Errors that will water down the characters and cause DC properties to be ruined.

If DC decided to make the movies in the same process of Lord of the Rings then it would be awesome. Lots of time to build characters up, set up grant battles, and drive a fantastic story. 2 or 3 movies set back to back that everyone could get behind.

While a Justice League movie would be awesome, at this point I would just be happy with a Flash or Wonder Woman movie.....baby step WB/DC, baby steps...no need to rush

@ tonytony,

I agree, I would rather see a WW movie set in her own world first. Same goes for Flash and Green Lantern. I want the characters to be built up and have stories told that celebrate them individuality first.

Consider how us fans want our own version of the Justice League movie - we all kind of have our own ideas and many conflict with other people's ideas. Creates a good discussion. It also demonstrates HOW POSSIBLE IT IS to make a Justice League movie, if even a few of these radically different ideas actually sound good to others who are married to their own draft/scripts/play-things.

(Mine is a plaything)

WB just needs to get it done.

@ Intelligent

I thought Nolan was "rumored" to be out of JL?

If Avengers cab happen, so can Justice League.

And as much as I love the animated series, that was my childhood, I don't want to see a copy of that for the movie. I'm based in the philosophy of that the comics are the comics, TV is TV, games are games, movies are movies, etc. When people say "just do a live action version of the animated series, all I can say is that there is no creativity left in the world if that happens. If Bale doesn't come back (hoping he does), let it be new. Give the person elbow room to work, like Nolan did.

of course i would love to see a justice league movie but i think some more solo movies are needed first & i don't mean batman & superman.

other than that maybe the only way we'll see more dc movies is if warner start selling the rights to other studios.

If they give the Justice League movie as much attention as they did the Dark Knight franchise then it could be a success.

Do we need a Justice League movie? No.

Do we need another Justice League cartoon? Yes

Do we need a Justice Leage movie? Absolutely...it's necessary.

Groot and Rocket Raccoon will be on the silver screen before Wonder Woman and Flash, that's just not right! WB needs to get on the ball, this is ridiculous.

WTF kind of conclusion is "lets wait and see"?? Is that your version of no decision is still a decision??
You present no real arguments for or against a JL movie at all.

Of course, we all want to see a Justice League movie. As fans, how can we not. What we dont want to see is it turning into a crap fest like Ghost Rider:SOV, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Jonah Hex or Elektra. We want to see something along the lines of, at the very least, The Avengers.
What the WB needs to learn is that these movies need to be treated with respect and to stop trying to give us a "comic book" type of movie. Marvel has taken that approach but isnt afraid to also give us a little of that fantasy that makes the comics so great.
Say what you want about Nolan and his Bat trilogy- but dont forget that he treated Batman with respect and made us all think that he could be real. With what I have seen of MOS, they are taking that route again. Approach JL in the same way, it could most certainly work.

The public should absolutely be able to experience a live action Justice League movie.

1) If it is bad then so be it. Superman and Batman survived bad movies as did Spiderman and Xmen. If the JLA movie adds certain elements, then it should still be able to satisfy fans. The Star Wars movies are not that good (at least half of them) but because they have such a loyal fanbase no one will abandon it.

2)The animated movie is only a slight upgrade from comic books. Basically as largely visual beings, being able to experience something in real life is the greatest immersion in that world one can have. So why live action VS animated...for the same reason I feel very little when Bugs Bunny is falling out of an airplane VS when Tony Stark is falling to his death when I experience some form of trepidation. Live action is the closest we get to simulating real life without actually being in it...so the immersion factor (read enjoyment) is ramped up ten times that of a comic book or animated series.

3) The DC universe needs to be unified (and it can be). The one thing that I think that DC should copy from Marvel is creating a shared universe. Which requires using other films to build it up. Again it adds to the feeling of reality that neither a comic book or animated films could ever achieve.

What Avengers taught us is that a Justice League movie is possible - if the right creative talent is involved, if the necessary care and attention is given to the development, and that solo movies for all (or most) of the characters is needed in order to have the much needed character development. Otherwise, you end up with a film about explosions and a bunch of people dressed up as The Justice League.
