I just want to go out of my way to say I don’t really want a movie like this to get made. If you’ve played Bioshock Infinite, then you know it stands perfectly well on its own and probably works better as a video game than it ever would as a movie.
But I made a Bioshock fan-cast earlier on, so I guess I kinda feel obligated to post this. Here you go.
Plot
Bioshock Infinite is a story about Booker DeWitt, a roguish private detective steeped in debt. His latest job sends him to the heavenly city of Columbia, with the cryptic directions: “Bring us the girl, and wipe away the debt.” But trouble is brewing in Columbia, and Booker finds himself paired up with a mysterious young woman named Elizabeth. Together, Booker and Elizabeth must brave hordes of religious zealots and bloodthirsty revolutionaries, as the society of Columbia crumbles around them.
Production Crew
Ben Waisbren - Executive Producer
From V for Vendetta to Blood Diamond, 300 to Fury, Ben Waisbren has served as producer on some excellent films. I believe he’d be a fitting choice for this project.
Park Chan-wook - Producer
There are elements of Bioshock Infinite’s plot that are reminiscent of Park Chan-wook’s cult classic Oldboy. I included Chan-wook in my previous Bioshock fan-cast, and think he’d still do great work on a Bioshock Infinite film.
Ken Levine - Producer
Ken Levine is the mind that created both Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, having served as chief writer and producer of both games. It would be a crime not to include him in the creative process of a film -- this series is his baby.
Terry Gilliam - Director
I wanted a director who could really bring the vivid, colorful city of Columbia to life. Terry Gilliam is perhaps best known for his comedic work with Monty Python, as well as the Johnny Depp vehicle Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. But the movie that made me believe he was perfect for this job was 12 Monkeys, a dystopian sci-fi film starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.
Christopher McQuarrie - Screenwriter
He works great with bare-bones action and sci-fi material, such as Jack Reacher and Edge of Tomorrow. He’s a smart writer with a great sense of pacing and tension. I’d love to see him and Terry Gilliam working together.
Dariusz Wolski - Cinematographer
Wolski is one of Hollywood’s most prolific cinematographers, having worked in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, all four Pirates of the Caribbean films, and Alex Proyas’ The Crow. He’s a great talent behind the camera, and I think it would be a visual treat to see him and Terry Gilliam bring the world of Columbia to life.
Cast
Thomas Jane as Booker DeWitt
Age: 46
Others Considered: Alex O’Loughlin, Jamie Dornan
A hard-drinking private investigator haunted by his violent past, Booker is a man seeking redemption for his many past misdeeds. I feel Thomas Jane would really be able to capture DeWitt’s jaded personality and dark, sarcastic sense of humor.
Alexis Bledel as Elizabeth
Age: 33
Others Considered: Elizabeth Olsen
Though Booker DeWitt is the hero of Bioshock Infinite, Elizabeth is undoubtedly the star. She’s sweet but contentious, idealistic but naive. She’s one of the most well-rounded characters I think I’ve ever seen in a video game. I really wanted to give this role to Elizabeth Olsen, but I have to go with Alexis Bledel. She’s a little old for it, but I think that would be ok if she was next to 46-year-old Thomas Jane.
Donald Sutherland as Zachary Comstock
Age: 79
Others Considered: None
“Father” Comstock is a religious zealot positioned at the top of Columbia’s society. He claims to be a prophet who can see visions of the future from God -- what he’s really doing is using interdimensional rifts to peer across space and time. It’s complicated, okay? Anyway, Donald Sutherland has the perfect appearance and presence for a “fatherly old man” who is actually concealing some serious sociopathic tendencies.
Saffron Burrows as Rosalind Lutece
Age: 42
Others Considered: Rosamund Pike
A scientist who was at one point an employee of Zachary Comstock, and whose studies on interdimensional travel kickstart the plot of Bioshock Infinite. After an experiment goes wrong, both Rosalind and her “twin brother” Robert are scattered like seeds into the celestial wind -- they now exist in every infinite dimension in the multiverse, effectively making them omniscient.
Damian Lewis as Robert Lutece
Age: 44
Others Considered: Simon Baker
He calls himself Rosalind Lutece’s “twin brother,” when in actuality he is a male version of Lutece from an alternate reality. He and his sister now exist as passive observers in all realms of reality, serving as Bioshock Infinite’s own Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
Damian Lewis is quite close to Burrows in looks, age, and height (she is 6’0”, he is 6’1”), which is quite fitting for the character. The only key difference is their eye color, which I think could be corrected with colored contacts.
Zoe Saldana as Daisy Fitzroy
Age: 36
Others Considered: None
Daisy Fitzroy is the bloodthirsty leader of the Vox Populi (Latin for “Voice of the People”), a revolutionary group of Columbia’s downtrodden lower class. Besides bearing a striking resemblance to the character, Zoe Saldana has this kind of power that could really make her a scary on-screen presence. She was my first and only choice for this role. Someday I’d love to see Saldana play a villain, because I think she’d be great.
Sacha Baron Cohen as Jeremiah Fink
Age: 43
Others Considered: Nicolas Cage, John Glover
I had no idea who to give this role to, though I think I settled on a fairly solid choice. As his name would suggest, Jeremiah Fink is a sleaze-ball president of the conglomerate “Fink Manufacturing.” He helps keep Columbia’s poor class poor, and its rich class rich. Sacha Baron Cohen is an odd duck, but I think he could pull off this part quite well.
Marion Cotillard as Lady Comstock
Age: 39
Others Considered: None
Father Comstock’s late wife, supposedly murdered by one-time housemaid Daisy Fitzroy. The truth is that she was murdered by her own husband, after discovering a terrible secret about their daughter Elizabeth. Marion Cotillard doesn’t really need much explaining -- she’s a great actresses, and I’m sure would bring a sense of elegance and intensity to this character.
Michael Rooker as Cornelius Slate
Age: 59
Others Considered: Harvey Keitel, Jonathan Banks
I already used Michael Rooker in my Attack on Titan fan-cast, but screw it -- I like Michael Rooker. He’d do a great job as batshit-crazy Cornelius Slate, a man who witnessed Booker DeWitt’s dark deeds firsthand at the Massacre as Wounded Knee.
That’s all I have for now, folks. Like it or hate it, comment below and let me know.
See ya.
