After years of training under the guidance of martial arts master Lei Kung the Thunderer, young Rand earns the chance to gain the power of the mystical heart of the fire breathing serpent Shou-Lao the Undying. Succeeding and gaining the power as well as the title of “Iron Fist” Rand returns to the earth dimensional in order to take vengeance upon his father’s business partner Harold Meachum who was responsible for his father’s death. Upon finding Meachum, now an invalid, Rand takes pity upon him and spares his life, but only minutes after Meachum is killed by a mysterious ninja assassin and Iron Fist is blamed for the murder. This is the story of Danny Rand’s search for the killer in order to clear his name.
I’m a fan of both the classic Iron Fist series as well as the more recent Immortal Iron Fist series, but I’m going for the classic take in order to introduce Iron Fist and his supporting cast. Some of the concepts introduced in Immortal Iron Fist can be brought in any future Iron Fist sequels.
Charlie Hunnam = Danny Rand/Iron Fist. Hunnam is a pretty solid actor and could easily pull off action/fighting sequences.
Sanaa Lathan = Mercedes "Misty" Knight. A talented actress with the skills to pull off Misty Knight. She's young and attractive, but has a "mature" quality to her person need for someone who was a former cop.
Maggie Quigley aka Maggie Q.= Colleen Wing. Ms. Q. has a decent martial arts action background and acting skills for the role. The only drawback for me which can be fixed is she's a little on the thin side. With a few added pounds of toned muscle she's perfect.
These next two casting choices, plain and simple martial arts movie clout especially for any sequels with K'un-L'un as the setting.
Seen in K'un-L'un flashback sequences, Chow Yun Fat = Lei Kung the Thunderer.
Also seen in K'un-L'un flashback sequences, Jet Li = Yu-Ti.
Rick Yune = Davos/Steel Serpent. Another young talented actor with a decent action background. I originally pictured someone a little older for the part, but made more sense on multiple levels movie wise to have someone closer to Iron Fist in age. Also for movie purposes it will be revealed that Davos is the mysterious "ninja" working for the main villian of the movie. (Disguises himself when he kills Harold Meachum in order to hide his identity from Iron Fist so that Rand will not realize he has followed him to the earth dimension from K'un-L'un.)
Tom Selleck = Detective Rafe Scarfe. Good and personable actor. A good fit for the character.
Maggie Grace = Joy Meachum. Her character of Shannon Rutherford from Lost in some ways similar to this character. Another reason for going for a youthful Steel Serpent: sexual tension between Joy and Davos when together plotting to kill Iron Fist for her father's death. Adds more impact when she learns Davos is really the killer.
Neal McDonough = Ward Meachum. Cold, manipulative and yet charismatic when he needs to be. Mc Donough pretty good for this character.
And finally the big bad of the movie : Colin Salmon = Master Khan. Since Khan likes to pass himself off as a "god" I went with someone who could give an air of nobility and seeming beneficence to Khan so that you almost believe he is, that is until he shows his true colors.
Coming soon the combined sequel for both this Iron Fist casting and my previous Luke Cage casting.
