FAN-ticizing: Superman vs Batman: My Take

Who I think is the better hero and why.

One is considered the "big blue boyscout".  The other is "a dark knight".  One is an alien instilled with the ultimate power and faith in the American way.  The other is a cynical, demented man with no power just looking to better his city.  Many say the former is the better hero, as well as many that say the later.  And there are many logical arguements for both sides.  But today I want to bring up a new point to the debate on who i think is better and why.

Batman has no powers, as many like to point out.  He shouldn't even be able to wipe the ass of Superman, as many more like to point out.  Both get their points across in different ways, Batman through intimidation, Superman through reasoning.  And while Batman is only a man, Superman has a major weakness that not many point out, and I'm not talking about Kryptonite.  Superman, unlike Batman, is corruptable.

The Man of Steel may have been raised with the American Way, but that doesn't neccessarily mean he keeps it.  And sometimes he takes it too far.  Batman has grown into a force made to stop Superman in recent years.  Batman's mission has extended from protecting the people, to having to manage Superman.

To bring up my first point, The Dark Knight Returns.  This 80's comic has an aged Batman fight a Superman corrupted by the American government.  And he does this and wins (even though some call bullshit on this fight).  This is because Batman knows the stakes if he loses.  He knows a corrupted Superman is a horrible thing for the world.

Next, we have Kingdom Come, one of the most critically and commercially successful graphic novels to be released.  Superman may be the main character, but he is corrupted, this time against the system.  Superman no longer has faith in the American Way, and takes matters into his own hands.  And when he asks Batman to join, Batman refuses because he see's the error in his ways, and begins to form a new plan.

Third, we have the Hush storyline in Batman.  While not for long, Superman is corrupted by Poison Ivy's toxins to do her bidding, leading to an epic fight between Batman and Superman.  Batman knows he may not be able to last long, but that doesn't stop him from trying.

Lastly, we have Injustice, where again, Superman becomes corrupted against the ameriacn way and fights the world.  Batman then forms his own team to fight, and refuses to back down from what he knows is a ticking time bomb.

So, what's the point?  The point is that there is no specific storyline where Batman become's corrupted from the Justice League, or the world.  In 2002's Tower of Babel line Batman is kicked out of the Justice League for coming up with plans in the case one of the leaguers goes rogue.  And so far, they could have come into use many times throughout comic book history.  Batman has stayed true to his mission, and more, making him, in my eyes, the better hero.

Now, who I think would win in a fight?  I think it depends on the circumstances.  Batman once said "I don't want to fight you Clark, because then I would have to kill you".  That means that if Batman had to truly fight him for the sake of the world, he would do what is necessary.  Superman may have ultimate power, but his corruptability is what makes him weak.  Now, if the roles are reversed, and Batman is the corrupted one, I do think it would be closer, leaning towards Batman.  But in a regular "hey, let's just measure dick's fight" I would have to give that one to Superman.

What do you think?  Am I right? Terribly wrong?  Let me know below.  And hit the Red Thumb to show some love if you do like my idea.

Everyone thinks that they are going to fight to the death. What reason would Superman have to kill Batman? He just barely killed Zod and he was going to destroy the planet! If anything, it's going to be a confrontation, something like where Batman is going to do something and says to Superman "Get out of my Way!" and Supes saying "You know I can't let you do that", leading to the showdown which I think will be brief but epic. Then towards the end they both end up working together and get married and have little SuperBat kids ;)

I actually find it hard to believe that Batman would be able to beat Superman after watching Man of Steel. The Superman in Man of Steel is beyond powerful. So in this case if i where to say who would win it would be Superman. Also it's uncertain if Kryptonite does exist in Man of Steel's universe.

What if this happens in the film?

Superman and Batman fight, because Lex is mind controlling Clark and building an army of robots to protect The US, because he thinks the government can't do it anymore. Since they allowed the invasion of Zod and they had to rely on an alien to protect them. And he doesn't trust aliens and he doesn't want the world to rely on aliens to protect themselves. He wants people to rely on him and see him as a god amongst men , like they do Superman. Or at least he feels they should rely on themselves.

@Glider
Villains breaking out isn't batman's fault, its the prison system's fault.

I hear this argument quite a bit that villains just keep breaking out.
is he supposed to kill them?
Superman did that to Zod and look at the backlash he got.

Or instead of robots, he builds an army of Superman clones, off of Clark's or Zod's DNA aka an army of Bizarros. But if they go with the army of robots angle, he can fit each robot with material from Zod's ships and World engines. Also, he can fit each one with kryptonite and tada, Lex has an army of Metallos made from krytonian weapon parts and materials.

This ^ will essentially make Lex the president of the world, by force, unless Superman and Batman can stop him. I think the way they should start the film is by having Lex run for president. With his main political agenda being no more aliens and winning on that. The people don't realize what kind of monster they just elected into office, until its too late and he sets this plan into motion ^. Making The US into a police state.

But then again, why would Lex run for president when he can just take The US by force with the plan I just laid out.

SCOURGE

GoldSlayer1-Yes, he is. Batman used a gun early in the comics, he really needs to put two bullets in to the back of the Joker's head and be done with it already.

@SCOURGE

Would you have Spider-Man do that to his villains, so that he could get rid of them permanently?

Batman just needs to pop a cap in Joker's ass. At least Supes traps his villains in a VERY Maximum security prison called the Phantom zone.

Oh yeah by the way, Superman can kill Batman just by looking at him. That means he wins in a fight no matter how much the writer diminishes Supes powers so that Bats can beat him, Supes in MOS destroyed a building by slamming in to it. Batman does not stand a chance without Red Sun energy or Kryptonite.

Wasn't it Brother Eye and the OMACs who hijacked Batman's strategies and plans on how to defeat each one of the Justice League?

"Batman just needs to pop a cap in Joker's ass. At least Supes traps his villains in a VERY Maximum security prison called the Phantom zone."

Yeah, but they still escape. As a matter of fact, every comic book villain escapes to fight the hero again. If they didn't, the hero would run out of villains to fight.

@MarkoftheDemon

The difference is you have to be super powerful to get through the phantom zone. Joker would be trapped forever. Batman saves Gotham, Superman saves the world. I love them both equally, but Superman beats Batman unless he cops out and uses kryptonite. Read Justice League #2 (new 52), Superman beats Batman, Green Lantern, and Flash in one fight.

Batman already has tried to fight Superman with Kryptonite and "prep" before. The outcome? Beaten Bat.

@RedHood13

Let me put it to you this way, there is a reason why The Punisher isn't as popular as Superman, Batman, Spider-Man etc. The hero is only as good as the villains he faces.

Superman has already beaten Batman lots of times. Oh and Batman said :" there is no way I could beat you without killing you".

we know superman has the phantom zone, but he only uses it for uncontrollable and uncontainable villains.
such as doomsday. dont think he'd use it on someone like Lex.

All incarnations of superman are extremely powerful every batman has been just as smart and badass. Superman of course would win. But batman will always have kryptonite.

In all those stories that you mentioned, Superman is only corruptible because those writer's CHOSE to make him that way. These are fictional characters, everything about their personality comes from the writers. If you look at the way Superman has been portrayed in the vast majority, he is every bit as incorruptible as Batman has normally been portrayed. You really don't think a writer could come up with a story in which some villain uses magic or a drug to control Batman's mind, corrupt him as you put it? So to me, this article has absolutely no validity.
