October 21, 2008 was the first official announcement by LucasArts for the Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic.
Today, October 18, 2010, its close to 3 years since the announcement. Most of us already know that it has been announced, about 3 months ago, that SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic) will be released in the fall of 2011. Thats another entire year. There has been a great amount of anticipation building up for the release, let alone the playing, of SWTOR.
So how are the fans still able to follow SWTOR with its development duration? Well, LucasArts has a way of keeping everyone's appetite wet. I went on SWTOR's website, its has so much information about the content of the game. It talks about the different classes, planets, allegiances, biographies, inhabitants, starships and more. The cool thing is, they don't give you all the information at once. They add new information every now and then, this is probably what keeps everyone interested. For example, in the "Classes" section they started out with three classes, now there are now five classes I believe. You always go back to the site the see if new information is added, or you can just sign up for a newsletter that sends you email notifications of new postings.
So now is this game going to be the largest MMO? Well, the way that LucasArts has been advertising this game, by giving us all of the information about the game and its contents, they make it seem like this game is going to be a huge hit. So I really think that this game is going to be pretty darn huge, I'm almost willing to bet that it will be a larger engine than World of Warcraft.
Even though its taking so long for this game to come out, I am willing to wait. A good game takes time, a bad game takes less time. Quality not quantity.
