HENRY CAVILL
Age: 27
Height: 6'1 ft (185cm)
Notable Credits: The Tudors (2007-2010), Immortals (2011)
Editor Verdict: At 27 and above the magic 6 feet tall marker as well as possessing the look in the face, Cavill has all the perfect credentials to be Superman in the reboot and potential sequels. Give him 6 months in the gym and the perfect Superman.

SCOTT PORTER
Age: 31
Height: 6 ft (182cm)
Notable Credits: Friday Night Lights (2006-2008), Dear John (2010)
Editor Verdict: Another like Cavill that has all the potential, but most fans don't seem to take to Porter as Superman. I believe different, if Nolan wants to stamp his marker on the franchise and chooses Porter, could this be another Heath Ledger?

CHANNING TATUM
Age: 30
Height: 6'1 ft (185cm)
Notable Credits: GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra (2009), Dear John (2010)
Editor Verdict: Tatum is one of the rising stars in Hollywood with a massive female fanbase that would draw in the couple crowd. Most comic book geeks hate the fact of Tatum as Superman but he kind of looks like a young Alex Ross Superman and I have no doubt that he could hold the role.

BRANDON ROUTH
Age: 30
Height: 6'3 ft (189cm)
Notable Credits: Superman Returns (2006), Scott Pilgrim (2010)
Editor Verdict: As the last man to grace the big screen as Superman, he drew a massive fanbase as Superman. Most wouldn't mind Routh as Superman but as this is a reboot, would he be beneficial to taking the role against IF he is given the chance.

JOSH HARTNETT
Age: 32
Height: 6'3 ft (190cm)
Notable Credits:
Editor Verdict: The most prominent name on this list and that is what Nolan goes for in his movies which he likes to give the film credibility. Has been heavily linked in the past and would be a good edition as Superman though in my opinion not the best candidate.

RICK MALAMBRI
Age: 27
Height: 6'2 ft (188cm)
Notable Credits: Step Up 3D (2010), Surrogates (2009)
Editor Verdict: A rising name in Hollywood, he auditioned for the role of Captain America unsuccessfully in Marvel's up and coming feature film. He has the best look in the list, has the perfect height, age to be Superman but can he act and can he hold down the role and potential leader in the Justice League movie.

JAKE GYLLENHAAL
Age: 29
Height: 6 ft (183cm)
Notable Credits: Prince of Persia (2010), Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Editor Verdict: An underdog for the role and after impressing in Prince of Persia and showing that he can hold down and star in a full on action movie, Gyllenhaal has firmly put himself into a position where he could possibly compete.

SAM WORTHINGTON
Age: 34
Height: 5'10 (178cm)
Notable Credits: Clash of the Titans (2010), Terminator: Salvation (2009)
Editor Verdict: Along with Hartnett and Gyllenhaal, a high profile name on this list and with links with Christian Bale and high recommendations from visionary's like James Cameron who knows. However, at 5'10 he is very short for the role of Superman and some serious boot lifts and computer tricks would be needed. Also he doesn't really look like Superman.

RYAN McPARTLIN
Age: 35
Height: 6'3 (190cm)
Notable Credits:
Editor Verdict: One of the hot favourites for the role of Captain America, is that luck and could he be destined for Superman? He has Superman's perfect height and with a bit of hair dye the perfect look also. A strong candidate and my choice for the underdog.

JON HAMM
Age: 39
Height: 6'0 (184cm)
Notable Credits: Mad Men (2007-), Day the Earth Stood Still (2009)
Editor Verdict: The oldest candidate on the list, although his striking resemblence to all of Alex Ross' heroes he isn't my favourite choice at all. He looks nothing like what I envision Superman to be and at 39, is way too old for me. Hopefully he stays away.

Who is your favourite candidate? Would you choose somebody else? Let us all know below!

Let's face facts people, NONE of the guys suggested (with the exception of Hamm) actually LOOK like the Big Blue Schoolboy! And few of them have actually PROVEN that they have the acting chops to handle such a role!

I call bs on porter, hartnett, gyllengaal, and worthington
I like Rick Malambri's look but never saw him in anything
Ryan McPartlin is the perfect Barry Allen (Flash) but if he gets Superman I'm equally pleased
Jon Hamm as Lex Luthor is oscar worthy.
Cavill on the otherhand would be ideal, even if he's not American. (after all, Superman's Canadian)

Thank Darwin you didnt mention Tom Welling! If I were to choose I'd have Routh as nr 1, then follows; Cavill, Malambri, and then Hamm. Josh Harnett is an interesting choice. I doubt he really could do it but he could also suprise. Gyllenhaal is a big no no, so is Worthington. I'd even take a Dicaprio if possible, with plateou shoes. I'd love to see what Routh could, and can do with the role now. And with Nolan's supervision and probably the mastermind of Geoff Johns, or someone else from DC checking out the direction it would be so just perfect. Give Routh another chance!!!!! Just do it already!!!!!

BRANDON ROUTH IS THE MODERN AGE SUPERMAN!

Jon Hamm could play supes easily AGAIN i am still for him being Green Arrow BUT if he was supes i would be so happy. He can play the geek clark kent type easy (watch 30 rock) seems just like clark kent in those guest starring roles he did. and supes Watch Made Men a confident well assured man. He could so play supes not to mention this new movie The Town directed by Ben Affleck he looks great in it. he has range he could do it thats what acting is about not playing yourself but playing other characters and well and he can do that

Channing tatumn? serously is that a joke he is like i cant even now that is an example of someone who is always themselves when they do a movie not showing range

Routh is out.... so the only one that wouldn't make me boycott this film entirely is Caville. But he would NEED to go train with Chris Hemsworth b/c he's WAYYY too skinny.
6of13
6of13 - 8/27/2010, 12:02 PM
My choice is Tahmoh Penikett. 6 foot 3.
Leee@ I really like Routh for Supes too.
The best ones in this article are Routh and Cavill.
Hamm for Green Arrow! Way better fit for Arrow than Superman.
What's Malambri been in?

JON HAMM ALL THE FRIGGIN WAY! Superman in the comics has a 37 to 40 year old look to him, he's got some age. Also Hamm can really act, Brandon Routh looked to skinny to be superman. I would say Hamm.
6of13
6of13 - 8/27/2010, 12:21 PM
IF, Routh were ever to be given another chance with the cape, how would you do it? How do you explain to the audience that this is a rebooted Superman series that is differentiated from Returns but the same actor is still playing Superman?
(and yes I know that is a big IF, that is why I capilized it).
6of13
6of13 - 8/27/2010, 12:26 PM
I think Routh looked great as Supes. I agree that Superman needs to look powerfully built, but he does not have to look like he abuses steriods. His strength is super powered, therefore why does he need to look like an over exagerated body builder to indicate that he has all this power?
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/27/2010, 12:42 PM
Hamm or Cavill!
Angelus
Angelus - 8/27/2010, 12:44 PM
@ 6of13 - Thats what I've been saying. I thought Routh had a nice build, but he could be a bit more buff. But Superman should be graceful. It would simply look ridicoulus if he looked like Jay Cutler or anything like that.

Bring Routh back!

BMP!!!
Ryden
Ryden - 8/27/2010, 1:02 PM
I can't believe you're against Hamm simply because of his age, remember that RDJ is 45...he will be 50 by the time Iron Man 3 comes out but I don't here you complaining.

Hamm looks the most like Supes/Clark out of any of those candidates, and is the best actor too.

But for a younger Superman, I would like to have seen Routh back but it's a reboot so no.

Can't believe you thought Taters could be a good Superman, he can't act to save himself and doesn't look the part.
