WWE Superstar Sheamus Throws His Hat In The Ring For VENOM

Like The Rock and Batista before him, first ever Irish-born WWE Champion Sheamus (real name Stephen Farrelly) is looking to make the transition from the squared circle to Hollywood, and one role in particular has caught his interest: Eddie Brock, aka Spider-Man baddie Venom.

A few years ago the notion of a professional wrestler landing a major role in a big budget film would probably have been laughed at, but now with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson one of the biggest action stars (and well respected thesp in general) in the world and the likes of Dave Bautista impressing in Guardians Of The Galaxy, the idea doesn't seem so far fetched any more. The latest wrestler to set his sights on a Hollywood career is Dublin-born grappler Stephen Farrelly, better known as former WWE Champion Sheamus. In an interview with Irish Central, the distinctively pale, ginger-haired 36-year old says he believes he could make a good go of it in front of the camera, and names Michael Fassbender, Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman as the actors he'd most like to work with. A comic book movie fan then? Looks that way, as he fancies playing none other than Venom in a future Spider-Man flick.

"I always read comic books as a kid, I always remember Eddie Brock, who was Venom in the Spider-Man comics. He was kind of a red head. I'd love to play the role of Venom and Eddie Brock. Venom was one of my favorite characters. It would be a dream come true for me to star in the next Spider-Man film as Venom."

Thing is, we're not even 100% sure there will be an Amazing Spider-Man 3 (at least not for quite a while), but as we know there is still that solo Venom movie planned..perhaps Seamus could lobby for that role. What do you guys think? Can you see the Celtic Warrior as Venom? Sound off below.

Difference between The Rock and Batista is they picked comic book studios that actually know what they're doing.

The three actors he said he wants to work with are at 2 different studios. Does this guy even know that?

I love when people say "I read comic books as a kid" when seeking a CBM role. It's almost like they're saying "I know this shit, so let me DO this shit" when in reality they probably shuffled through a few comics here and there.

That'd be different if he wanted to work with either Fox or Marvel, but he wants to work with Sony. Unless Sony, Fox and Marvel plan on collaborating in the near future, which I doubt will ever happen.

Fox is like someone who has two busted legs and Sony is like someone with 'the clap'.

Them getting in bed together would not be the greatest idea...

A shared universe with Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four does sound all kinds of epic. But it sucks when the people behind the properties don't have a single clue about what they are doing.

An apple pie ice cream donut cake may sound good, but if the person trying to cook isn't a good cook, it'll taste awful.

He's just saying that he likes those actors and if he got into acting he would like to work with them, not that he wants to be in a single movie with all of them

Got you. In that case the only way he'd be able to work with either of those guys is if he played a thug or a deadbeat boyfriend. Or a friend from college or something.
